If it can't be CLINTON what about KERRY???
I have always said my first pick for VP is Clinton and it still is, BUT I have also said that I would be thrilld if Obama picked Biden...

However, the last couple of days I have thought... "What about Kerry?"

Kerry has the military experience and foriegn policy no how to address the recent tensions between Georgia and Russia
Kerry has been insanely well vetted.
We wont have to worry about introducing Kerry to the American public because they already know him.

So what do you guys think? Would you all be happy with Kerry? I am starting to understand that it may not be Clinton or Biden (though I still have a lot of hope for it and think it is possible) and if it is not one of those two I think Kerry would make an excellent choice!

:)

Clinton refusing to prosecute BCCI and Iran/Contra is simple fact.

blm drags the same old attacks on the Clintons to EVERY thread he/she posts in.

I'm just saying, stay on topic.

in the WH who will NOT side with the secrecy and privilege of the Bushes and their cronies, and the best example of how much harm it has caused our party and the nation is Clinton's protection of Poppy Bush throughout the 90s. Would you rather that this country NOT understand the importance of open government in view of the horrific consequences it has endured because of the Clinton-Bush alliance?

I think when it comes to the bottom line, you will side with open and accountable government and let the chips fall where they may. Protecting 'reputations' and nurturing inaccurate views of some powerful Dems who aligned themselves with the Bushes has never been helpful and healthy in the long run, has it?

23. There is no way to separate Kerry from the BCCI and Iran/Contra
investigations, just as there is not way to separate Clinton from the aborting of those investigations.

Sorry.

Clinton made a calculated choice to let them drop, in hopes of gaining bi-partisan support during his term. The result was 8 years of republican harassment and millions spent on spurious charges against him.

He is the object lesson of NOT letting the criminals off, this time around.

25. And no separating BCCI and IranContra from 9-11, this Iraq war, and possible war with Iran.
It's the entire "Let's move past' these issues of crimes against the constitution by presidents and their operatives that led directly to Bush2, 9-11 and this Iraq war.

Any Democrat who believes in closed government is no Democrat to me - and certainly not a responsible citizen.

29. Not to mention the USB stuff with people hiding income in
international accounts is important. When the finance committee had a hearing of the same problem in the Cayman Islands, it was clear that Kerry was miles ahead of the others seeing it as an international problem that all countries have a vested interest in fixing to make things transparent. Jack Blum, who was on Kerry's BCCI staff, was an expert witness.

Looking at the list of who was on the Finance committee and the SFRC, there was only one person in both - John Kerry. On issues like this where both sides are needed, he is extremely important to the hearings. Both of these prestigious committees need people willing to work to be knowledgeable in both. Add in Kerry's integrity, willingness to stand for what is right and he is very important on this important committee - though few may see it.

(BLM - if you missed this - you'll love the exchanges between Kerry and Blum. That hearing was July 24th - click where indicated below the listing:

28. But as the person you are responding to said - BLM's comment was not a smear, but fact
Her post was also on topic - as it addressed why a strong Kerry supporter preferred him in the Senate - and as Marrah pointed out MA law doesn't let people run for 2 offices at the same time.

30. As said, he is running for Senate - but the fact is that it would not work a second time
The fact that "swiftboating" is a synonym for despicable lies means something. In Kerry's case what they hit was his service record - when the Navy's official record was called "Kerry's story". As the OP said, he has been as vetted as anyone - and has a long clean public life.

Unlike Edwards or Clinton, The attacks were complete lies - he is a highly decorated veteran with a spotless service record.

I'd be very happy with him the veep spot. (He's one of my Senators) But he is running for reelection to his Senate seat, and MA law forbids him from running for more than one office at a time. And with Kennedy ill, he'd be leaving MA without experienced representation in the Senate.

13. I wouldn't complain, but I won't be writing any emails for it, either.
He got mauled by the media last time, and while none of that was his fault, and while any Democratic pick is going to get mauled, I don't think Kerry really survived it well. Plus, we already have Massachusetts. On the other hand, he's a definite achiever, he's got some executive experience as Lt Governor, and I just like the guy.

I'd pick Clinton, Richardson, and Bob Graham, in that order, before Kerry, but I wouldn't be disappointed at all in him as VP.

You get one shot nowadays. Kerry is a goofus loser who let the GOP attack him and did nothing. He's ticket poison.

Keep him in the Senate where he belongs.

24. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter who WE want. Obama needs a running
mate on the ticket whose name will translate into votes in November. I'm not sure Kerry would bring those votes, and I have the same feeling about many of the others frequently mentioned.

We may know and be familiar with their strength in their offices, their accomplishments, their records, but the vast majority of Americans don't. They'll be relying on what they see on TV, and on their gut response to the candidate.
