I think this Clark buzz is similar to the Kaine/Bayh buzz.
If I've learned one thing about the Obama campaign in the last 8 months or so, it's that they have mastered the art of information control.

Simply, they're too smart to toss everyone a giant clue about who Obama's VP is going to be by naming a convention night after said prospective VP. Obama's team has a certain talent for political theater, be it the plans for the Invesco speech or the timing of Edwards endorsement to couterract the WV primary. When they reveal Obama's VP, it'll be to much more fanfare and with much more theater than simply doing something as obvious as the convention night theme name.

This is just another part of the "Hey look over there!" media campaign that the Obama campaign has been pulling on McCain and the media. He's got them running around in circles chasing their tails over all of these prospective VPs, who then summarily fade off the radar again when a new flavor of the week comes up. By keeping this speculation up for as long as possible with as many different choices, he protects from McCain counterprogramming his choice, and also allows for much more discussion and media uproar when he picks a complete dark horse.

Either that, or Obama and the DNC are running a remarkably shoddy vice presidential search, but nothing from either the DNC nor Obama's previous operations would suggest this.

1. I don't think it's a head fake, but I am willing to buy the idea...
that the "Securing America's Future" being Wednesday's theme and Wes Clark's motto could be coincidence...

3. Choosing CLARK WOULD NOT BE SHODDY. Would be smooth the way they protected him limelight so far.

5. No, but allowing the media and public to effectively find out before he could release it.
That would be shoddy. Because it could be released in much better and more exciting ways.

4. IS there Clark buzz "out there" -- or just here on DU?
I haven't seen/heard pundits mentioning him. What did I miss? Thanks! :hi:

6. I was going to ask this
I think it's just a lot of wishful thinking on DU. I'm one of them, were else would I go to discuss such?

11. I'd be very happy with Clark -
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 03:31 PM by gateley
but my gut feeling is Obama erased him off the list after his "controversial" :eyes: remark. I'm still pissed about that, by the way -- but this is politics.

13. I don't think there's been much Clark buzz since the 'disagreement'
he had with Obama over Clark's comments about McCain.

All the better to come back with Clark as the pick. Unlike Hillary, whom the MSM keeps trying to push (because how much would they love to talk about the inter-ticket drama?), I think Clark is one of the contenders they truly wanted to take out of the running - too much military cred and too little personal dirt to stack up against McCain.

8. How is it shoddy to give us all a BIG HINT? Makes remarkable sense to send up a trial balloon, just
to see who starts sniping and who salutes. A lot of saluting going on when Clark's name appears, that much I have seen. The only sniping seems to be coming from the AIPAC crowd.

The campaign is watching our reaction, you know.
