More Fun With the Dumbest People on the Internet (Obama Birth Certificate conspiracy!)
http://www.reason.com/blog/show/128025.html

It's been a while since I suited up and dumpster-dived in the Obama conspiracyverse. In my absence, I reckon that the average IQ there has dipped by 20-25 points. Take this latest revelation from Larry "Whitey Tape" Johnson.

Republican operatives, with help from their own island backers, have unearthed critical information on Obama and are just biding their time until after the convention to drop it on him. Such as? Having a birth certificate that lists you as Barry Soetoro.

Incredible! Ann Dunham met her second husband, Lolo Soetoro in 1966, in Hawaii. "Barry" Obama was, at this time, five years old. The only reasonable explanation is that Dunham and Soetoro built (or purchased) a Genesis Device to clone a new son, using DNA from Barack Obama Sr. that Dunham had pulled off one of his combs.

Seriously. The "evidence" for Johnson's claim is the now-familiar murmurings of "sources" and GOP "operatives" (who appear in these things quicker than agents of H.Y.D.R.A.) and the fact—not reported in too many places, but never disputed—that when Lolo Soetoro became his adoptive father, the young Barack was enrolled in school as "Barack Soetoro."

But was there anything at all odd about that as it concerns a candidate for president? Bill Clinton was William Blythe III until he turned 14 and his mother married Roger Clinton. Gerald Ford was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., and three years later his mother married Gerald R. Ford and unofficially re-named her son. The younger Ford didn't legally change his name until his was 22 years old. Is Larry Johnson or one of his pseudononymous fellow travellers going to retroactively challenge their legitimacy or veracity? Probably not. There's nothing odd or foreign about Ford's and Clinton's lives—there's no way to stoke racial bigotry and paranoia, which is the indisputable goal of this stuff.

Alas, this was only the second-stupidist event in Birth Certificatestan this week. The stupidest:

23. My favorite part - although it's hard to pick among the competing "theories"

...is where they hypothesize that Obama was really born in Kenya, but that his grandmother "phoned in" the birth announcement to the newspaper in Hawaii to make it look like he was born there.

Then the infant Obama was smuggled - this is 1961 - from Kenya to Hawaii so that his birth could be registered.

Although I have to admit that some of the "reasoning" is more bizarre than that. There seems to be a contingent who believes that if Obama's father had a first wife in Kenya, then he would be a bigamist in Hawaii. Hence if the marriage to his mother was not valid, then Obama is "illegitimate" which somehow, although he was born in Hawaii, makes him not a citizen.

It's a festival of dumb.

8. Dumbest people on the Internet??
Try the dumbest in the whole damn world! :tinfoilhat:

Do they REALLY, truly and genuinely think that they can use Google and some drunk relative to unearth some gargantuan mystery about Obama that would not have already been THOROUGHLY checked out and vetted by the auspices of the mighty U.S. government when the man became a freaking U.S. Senator??

What background history, what biographical data do they suppose they will be able to find that the damn government didn't find when the man first submitted his paperwork to run for the Senate? The TIME these people have for their idiotic Scooby Doo capers is just beyond me.

9. Over in Freeptardville...

...they have posted megabytes of some of the funniest crap on the planet "analyzing" this.

They seem to think that Obama intentionally revoked his US citizenship at a single-digit age, when he was enrolled in school in Indonesia, not quite able to grasp that a child born in the United States cannot revoke his or her US citizenship at all, regardless of what his/her parents do, or regardless of what other country might confer citizenship under various circumstances.

And that's one of their LEAST loony theories.

Someone is putting them on, but good.

15. ...or at least stirring the pot

It's quite a spectacle.

The majority of them don't seem to understand that each country determines its own citizenship laws, and most of them seem to think that a 3 year-old born in Hawaii has the capacity to renounce US citizenship or to have his parents do it on his behalf.

Any semi-sane poster who simply says that a child born in the US cannot renounce US citizenship until after age 18 is labeled a troll and hustled out.

So they concocted this theory of Obama being born in Kenya and then smuggled into the US.

The inmates have definitely taken over the asylum there, and I agree they probably had some help.

"It's like they're proud of being ignorant." - what a great line.

http://texasdarlin.wordpress.com/2008/08/10/obamas-dual-citizenship-disaster-an-overview/

Since everybody knows that a US birth is the most basic and earliest possible requirement for being US President, would anyone who did not meet this requirement even run for office? I mean what a complete waste of time that would be! In this day and age the idea of succesfully hiding it seems even too ludicrous to contemplate. Unless of course you're a republican. After all, they put the dumbest, most unqualified candidate they could find in the Whitehouse.

16. Besides that, they're making demands to officials of NY State
to verify Obama's birth certificate:

James A. Walsh / Co-Chair

Douglas A. Kellner / Co-Chair

Evelyn J. Aquila / Commissioner

Gregory P. Peterson / Commissioner

New York State Board of Elections

40 Steuben Street

Albany, NY 12207-2108

Dear Messrs. Walsh, Kellner and Gregory and Ms. Aquila

I would like to file a public, formal complaint with the New York State Board of Elections requesting verification of the natural-born U.S. citizenship of Mr. Barack Obama, and revocation of the registration and recognition of Mr. Obama’s candidacy for president of the United States if that citizenship is not verified as described below within 7 days of your receipt of this letter. Mr. Obama has not shown that he fulfills the Constitutional requirement for president, to be a “natural born citizen”, Article Two, Section 1.

The basis for this complaint is:

a) Mr. Obama’s refusal to produce a physical certified, stamped copy of his birth certificate, with the Hawaii file number visible, upon my previous repeated request and the requests of others.

b) Significant analysis of the electronically-displayed image displayed by Mr. Obama on his official campaign website as the certificate indicates forgery.

Yada, yada, yada…

Hawaii has been getting numerous inquiries every week. But birth certificates are private records. I do think Obama needs to do more to nip this idiocy in the bud.

22. Nawww......

Let the bud bloom into full-blown sheer stupidity.

They have a list of equally stupid things on their agenda, and dancing to their tune should not be Obama's.

Aside from which, the full-on effect of the fact that McCain was not born in the Canal Zone, but was born in Colon, Panama, which was never part of the Canal Zone, nor is it part of any military base, would be lost unless the entire "who was born where" question has wider currency than among the freeptards.

Did you notice the contortions in which the Supreme Court engaged in finding that Guantanamo Naval Station was not US territory fairly recently?

I love it when a plan comes together.

It's a hoot.

They are claiming a web-posted image file is a "forgery". Well, no shit. A web-posted image file is not a document submitted to anyone for anything. The "logic" here doesn't even qualify for "wrong".

It would be like the Louvre posting this:

...and then having a horde of morons claiming "That's not the Mona Lisa".

Correct. It's not the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is a painting on a piece of wood in a frame which hangs on a wall of a building in Paris. The thing you see above this text is a jpeg file.

(Actually, the image on MY computer screen is the Mona Lisa. The image your YOUR computer screen is a rank forgery.)

Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 07:00 PM by RamboLiberal
Got an email(I was the emailer) today by someone who says she heard KDKA Radio guy John Steigerwald spreading the rumor that Senator Obama's birth certificate "might be proven fake."

I didn't hear him last night so I can't comment specifically. Tonight just after 9pm he said that he DIDN'T say that the birth certificate was a fake - only that someone else said it was.

Now that the certificate has been posted on the web, their response?

It's a fraud. And they have the photoshop evidence to prove it. As I scrolled through the page I wonder why no one has bothered to call Hawaii and actually ask whether the certificate is real.

Oh wait, someone has. Amy Hollyfield in the St Petersburg Times did. She wrote:

http://2politicaljunkies.blogspot.com/2008/07/john-steigerwald-spreads-rumor.html

At PolitiFact.com, we’re all about original sources. We don’t take anyone at their word or take the reporting of other media organizations as proof. We go to the heart of the story, the source of the truth — original, corroborating documents.

When the official documents were questioned, we went looking for more answers. We circled back to the Department of Health, had a newsroom colleague bring in her own Hawaii birth certificate to see if it looks the same (it’s identical). But every answer triggered more questions.

And soon enough, after going to every length possible to confirm the birth certificate’s authenticity, you start asking, what is reasonable here?

Because if this document is forged, then they all are.

If this document is forged, a U.S. senator and his presidential campaign have perpetrated a vast, long-term fraud. They have done it with conspiring officials at the Hawaii Department of Health, the Cook County (Ill.) Bureau of Vital Statistics, the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois and many other government agencies.

Sounds like a Vince Flynn novel.

Google Obama Birth Certificate - it's near endless of websites referencing this. This seems to be what most reference back to. The clowns are trying to repeat their success with the documents CBS got on the Bush AWOL Story.

Document forensics expert: Obama "birth certificate" a "horrible forgery"

Barack Obama may be on a world tour surrounded by a fawning media, but Sunday an expert in electronic document forensics released a detailed report on the purported birth certificate -- actually a "Certification of Live Birth" or COLB -- claimed as genuine by his campaign. The expert concludes with 100% certainty that it is a crudely forged fake: "a horribly forgery," according to the analysis published on the popular right-wing Atlas Shrugs blog.

The purported birth certificate was published by the left wing Daily Kos blog on June 12 in response to unconfirmed reports that Obama was not in fact born in the United States (Canada and Kenya were suggested as the possible locations of his actual birth). Since he would in that case not be a natural born US citizen (his mother was not present in the US sufficiently long as an adult to pass American citizenship on to him automatically), he would not be eligible to be president. Israel Insider has followed the story in five previous articles (the previous one here) and uncovered evidence, most recently, of admitted forgery among Daily Kos bloggers, tolerance of electronic forgeries on the blog site, as well as efforts by a blog administrator to conceal the admission of forgery.

The latest examinaton of the purported documents is by far the most detailed and technically sophisticated to date.

Atlas Shrugs publisher Pamela Geller reports that the expert analyst, who goes by the screen name "Techdude", is "an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, American College of Forensic Examiners, The International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners, International Information Systems Forensics Association -- the list goes on. He also a board certified as a forensic computer examiner, a certificated legal investigator, and a licensed private investigator. He has been performing computer-based forensic investigations since 1993 (although back then it did not even have a formal name yet) and he has performed countless investigations since then."
