Obama hats and Tshirts being worn in the commissary! In NC!
It may seem minor, but I'm excited. REALLY excited. I live in NC, and Hubby is retired Army. If this had been any other election previous to this one, you wouldn't have seen them there.

The reactions were amazing. People smiling, waving at the gent with the hat. People talking to the lady with the Tshirt.

A bit ago, maybe a month, they even had a place set up near the mall (In GOLDSBORO!) with Obama things in it.

Could it be that this situation with having a messed up country is starting to turn the Military purple? Or against all hopes- BLUE!?

Just thought I'd share, I was thunderstruck :woohoo:

1. Wonderful news, MoF!

:D

I'm just waiting for election night. The GOP is going to get a huge unappetizing (for them) surprise.

It might not be surprising esp since isn't Seymour Johnson still on the chopping block?

3. I don't know if it is, I hadn't heard-

What I had heard recently though is that they are getting some transfers in and doing a reclaim of the housing they allowed the city to use. If they were doing that, I don't think it'll get shut down.

But, that's grapevine not hard fact. It's from a fellow EMS worker who heard it in courtyard circle area.

Now I'm curious :p I'll have to see what I can dig up.

4. As I pointed out in another thread...
...don't let yourself get too excited thinking that Obama is going to get the Military vote. Sure there are going to be some military voting for him, but the overall military votes mostly Republican. My husband is Virginia National Guard, AND BLACK, and is voting McCain, as are most of the guys that he serves with. He just came back from a year in the Middle East and is re-enlisting.

His unit had a "homecoming" celebration this past weekend and walking through the parking lots, I saw a TON of McCain stickers...and not one Obama sticker.

6. Yes, and they are another sector of willing GOP dupes
They vote against their own best interests.

The GOP is good at doing the rally round the flag and let's go to war dance, but they are no where to be found when it comes time to put up or shut up about veterans services and health care.

9. Well, ask you husband why so many people preferred Obama or

Ron Paul to McCain in the primaries?

The majority of the military is supposedly voting for the man who will stop this war, not continue it.
And you are an Obama supporter, or here for any other reason?

Where are all those McCain stickers? We've collectively been wondering on DU why no one has seen any. You must share where we can view them.

Edit to add: Is your husband aware that McCain didn't vote for the new, improved GI Bill? What's there to like with this guy? I'm very curious why a soldier would vote for a man who doesn't have their best interests at heart.

12. I've found that many military spouses-

Are the way to crack the shell around the hard core BOOYA military voters. We have friends who are down in Jacksonville (Marines) and they have stated that even though many of the couples don't talk politics together (The ones they know anyway) if they can convert HALF of the couple (For some reason many wives/home husbands vote repub because of the spouse being in the Military- go figure)

"Half a vote from a couple is better than no votes at all" via my friend.

For the record, I've not seen many McCain stickers AT ALL when we go groc shopping.

13. Okay...
...here's what my husband says: (His words) With everything that is going on in the world today, that's not going to go away by itself, the military not only is electing a President, but a Commander In Chief. And do they want someone who is a lifelong military person, or someone who has not served one day in the military?

He says the GI Bill is being blown out of proportion. McCain has his reasons for not voting (he didn't vote against...he didn't vote at all). McCain thinks that alot of people will do their 3 years just to get a free ride in college which will dwindle the amount of noncommisioned officers in the military. That's actually a tossup with my husband. He likes the fact that since he's 42 years old and will not be using his GI bill, he can pass it on to our 12 year old son. However, he said that he'd rather have a military mind that doesn't support that particular GI Bill leading the military at this time, rather then someone who supported the bill but has no military experience whatsoever.

(And BTW....I'm a Hillary supporter.)

15. He can also pass on a war and possibly a draft to your 12-year old
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 09:53 AM by babylonsister
son. Is that what you both want? How about a president who doesn't like or believe in the fact that wars don't solve anything? Oy. I have no words for that mindset, and you're a Hillary supporter? But she's no longer running. Who will you vote for?

Here, check these out and get back to me. Let me know if this is the guy you want leading this country:

I mean it; this election is too important to mindlessly vote for someone because he was in the military 40 years ago. This man's judgment is whacked, as is his mind.

Edit to ask: where have you seen all the McCain stickers?

head in the sand. You are, too, by not responding to questions I've asked. What is your motivation for being here?

11. This is so sad.
McSame does absolutely nothing for the Veterans. He votes against Vets benefits every chance he gets, yet receives a healthy disability check from a government that he despises. Have you pointed this out to your husband?

14. Ha! I shop at HEB, have an Obama button on my purse.
One man at the checkout counter noticed it and his face lit up! I say, keep on wearing and advertising wherever you can.
My DH commutes to downtown, and he claims he's seeing more and more Obama stickers. McCranky, none.

7. At an upscale mall in PA last week I saw a kid I pegged as a "future Young Republican"...
J.Crew shorts (yellow chino, possibly with embroidery--you know the type), polo shirt. Father was similarly dressed. In any case, this kid reaches into his bag and pulls this out...

8. I live in Hampton Roads are of Virginia. My husband is active duty
Navy. There are quite a few guys that are voting for McCain. Previous years the people at his command would have NEVER even thought about voting for a democrat. However, I think the fact that McCain has such an awful record regarding veterans people are giving Obama a second look.

I wore my Obama shirt to the commissary over a month ago. No one commented but I could tell they were looking. LOL That was at a local Army base.
