Iowa Republican endorses Obama

Former Iowa Republican congressman Jim Leach is jumping on the Obama bandwagon.

Leach, a high-profile moderate who was ousted from office in last year’s Democratic wave largely because of his party identification, is now endorsing the Democrats’ nominee for president.

From the AP:

The former Iowa congressman's backing was announced Tuesday as part of a group of GOP activists crossing party lines this year.

Leach told reporters: "I'm convinced that the national interest demands a new approach to our interaction with the world." Leach added that Obama offers the leadership to do that.

Leach lost his bid for another term in office in 2006. He was a foreign service officer before being elected to Congress.

Leach predicted that a lot of Republicans and independents are going to be attracted by Obama's campaign.

3. This will hurt Obama. Leach comes from such an exotic state.
In Iowa they grow all that "corn" and raise "live stock" on their farms, which they haul into market in their native "trucks."

4. Wow. That's a really big endorsement in Iowa. What a surprise!
I would really have figured Leach to be an ally of McCain.
