Is it possible that Obama could surprise everyone with his VP pick?

We have all been hearing endless speculation of who the VP would be for months now, but we are only a couple weeks from the convention and we still haven't been able to get any really good clues of who the VP pick is. We keep hearing the same names over and over again but is it possible that Obama could be planning to shock everyone?

There are a lot of very experienced and compelling people out in the real world. Obama has continually stressed that this is an election about change, is it possible that he just may consider choosing someone who has never run for elected office before?

It may seem risky, but if just the right person were found it could be a truly brilliant move. It would have to be someone who has made enormous accomplishments and has a very compelling personal story, and most importantly it would have to be someone with a very extensive knowledge of government and world affairs.

Such a move would shock the world, but no doubt in a country of 300 million people there are certainly many excellent selections that no one would ever guess. I think Americans would love to vote for a person who has never been in Washington before, just give them a person that they can relate to and respect and I think they would react very favorably.

I don't know if this could ever happen, but if anyone would consider making such a move I think it would be Obama. Does anyone else think this would be a good idea, or am I alone in this?

He pleaded guilty to heroin possession back in 1983, so unfortunately his name will never be considered for a place on any Presidential ticket. I would love to see him get appointed to a cabinet position though.

I do believe that he'll be a resident of the White House one day. Especially considering who we've already seen in these positions of power.

There have been some pretty disgusting people in power throughout the years, and I am shocked at the type of candidates that people vote for sometimes.

But while a lot of crap candidates can get elected, a good candidate like Kennedy can't because of something that happened 25 years ago. I don't think someone who was arrested for heroin possession could ever get elected President no matter how good of a candidate he is.

The host asked him if he had really considered running for President way back when he had just rescued Chrysler and people were talking about that. He answered, "Yes I did, but I talked to a close friend of mine (It was a sitting senator but I forget who). We had lunch together and I asked what he thought about me running. He said NO!!!! You would never be able to handle it. You'd either quit after 3-4 months or die in office of a heart attack! You are not used to people ignoring your requests or demands. That resonated with me. I think you have to have a special personality to live and work in DC. Few laymen do.

If he would do something like this it would have to be someone who has made some truly extraordinary accomplishments, and it would have to be someone who has had to deal with the public.

You may well be right that such a thing will never happen, but the reason for that is not because there aren't plentiful good choices in the real world but rather because the Washington insiders won't allow it to happen.

Obama is not a surprise kind of guy. It will be someone who is perceived to be in the last 4-5.

Don't you think that's all the media would be focusing on after a Clark pick?
