3. Republican geo-strategy has reached an impasse
Two things have been exposed by the Georgian conflict. First, "talking tough" has proven to be useless in foreign affairs. We have alienated many allies by insisting that the US is the guarantor of their sovereignty (eg, reminding France and Germany of WWII, or taking sole credit for the fall of the USSR). Each threat that is included in any communique or public statement actually diminished US power since we cannot and will not go to war with Russia, and we cannot directly aid Georgia. Second, the possibility of having a foreign policy that is both unilateral and moral is broken. The US can only condemn Russia as part of a collective effort along with EU and NATO, otherwise the hypocrisy of the Iraq War will be on display. It's no wonder that Bush has put so much capital into Sarkozy (as president of the EU) to broker a solution rather than deal with the problem himself.

In a nutshell, McCain's dream of a League of Democracies is dead.

If the US will continue to act unilaterally, it will have to drop the pretense of being ethical and accept that all nations act only in their own interest. Or, in order to foster morality in international relations, it must be willing to pool sovereignty in multinational organizations.

6. He's a Republican
so it's clear he's grandstanding on a situation that he probably added to creating.
Of course there is a pipeline that the neocons probably think needs to be made safe for democracy too.

I don't think McCain's war mongering will help him. But I could be wrong.

11. mcINSANE is confirmed - he's and idiot too - a DANGEROUS idiot...
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 02:16 AM by TankLV
I worry what the bushies are up to - like a cornered rabid dog - they will try to lash out in a last desparate attempt to WIN...

Are our SPINELESS dems able to stand up to these Hitler wannabes?

I fear the that THIS time it IS the start of WWIII...

Obama better get his act together PRONTO and make a BIG policy speech SOON...

For bunkerboy to say anything ANYTHING about how he "condemns" anything the Russians may do/have done should be THROWN BACK IN HIS FACE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY by us Dems - his "pre-emptive" UNNECESSARY ILLEGAL WAR OF AGRESSION AGAINST A FOREIGN COUNTRY THAT WAS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM A THREAT TO US is now coming back to haunt us - it's HIS and his fellow REPUKES fault that this situation exists AT ALL...THEY and THEY ALONE showed the rest of the ENTIRE WORLD that it is perfectly OK to INITIATE WARS - even ones based on LIES.

I don't like what Russia is doing - but the US has NO BUSINESS AT ALL in criticizing them - bunkerboy saw to that...

Russia could be thought to have more legitimate concern for what their doing - but it's no excuse either...

12. I think the idiots in power think the only way to save the economy is to have
the cold war brewing all over again - Then we get to sell arms to every shithole dictator we put in power, because that's the only real business we have left - the arms manufacturing business.
