Explain to me why I shouldn't be totally cynical
about the state of affairs in America today.

The media lie to us regularly; there is no more truth value in CNN or the network broadcasts than in Pravda in the Bad Old Days, and for pretty much the same reason: the ruling classes use lies and partial information to shape our beliefs and emotional responses to their will.

Even when the public uses the so-called power of the vote against their abusers, the People In Charge simply miscount the results and, through their control of information, convince the people that the election was honest.

We watch in horror and incomprehenskon as the ruling classes strip the nation of its wealth, raiding the public treasury on a grand scale, entangling us in wars across the world that serve no interest of ours, but merely advance the interests of the plutocrats as they play their game of global empire.

The mechanisms of the police state grow stronger day by day under the guise of orotecting us from foreign and domestic enemies. The government hones its skills at torture, even building an interrogation chamber in the White House before (can we doubt this is coming?) they turn their dark arts upon us.

Nothing we do has any effect. We watch ourselves sink into despair and learned helplessness.

Like I said, talk me out of this mindstate. Please.

Explain to me why I shouldn't be totally cynical.

1. I'm withholding my cynicism until November 5th. That day will decide how I see this country.

4. what will you do if another election is stolen?
I am already seeing the same patterns used in 2000 and 2006. They (the pukes) cannot afford to lose.

5. That's what's worrying me
I'm not yet a US citizen, so I can't vote anyway, but the "why bother voting for Obama, the Repukes will only steal it anyway?" logic is hard to resist. Which of course is exactly what the Repukes want.

6. I will at that point begin working for the Greens on the local level.
Not sure what the hell I'll do on the national level. Maybe just conclude that the Dems are a lost cause & go green there too. My heart has always been ideologically green (despite my problems with the Green party), and my brain a Democrat. This may be the event that unites my heart and brain.

3. You'd have to be mentally incapacitated...
...with mind-blowing denial not to be upset about all of this.

You say you're "cynical." To me, that connotes self blame. You
feel like a defective for seeing what you see--as if something is wrong
with your perceptions and your attitude.

This is not true. You are facing reality. Do you know how many
people aren't? You're not "cynical"--you're wide awake and
facing reality.

Our situation is pretty much dire, but you have advantages--because
you see what's going on. People who are in denial will be gob-smacked
and they won't be able to function when the shit really hits the fan.

You, on the other hand--will have prepared mentally and physically.

Furthermore, it's people like you who are the key to ending this
nightmare. Those who truly see what's happening--and refuse to
tolerate it--are the only hope this country has.
