Whatever happened to....
The Democrats that were supporting John McCain back in 2000 and the conservative Republicans that were hating on John McCain back in 2000? I wonder who do these people plan to vote for this year?

1. The last 8 years made both groups realize where he actually is?

2. Democrats probably voted for McCain in the 2000 primary just to vote against Chimpy
I have friends who did that. They aren't Repukes by any stretch of the imagination, but they really didn't have a preference between Gore or Bradley, so instead they voted against Bush, knowing that he would be the worst of all possible outcomes.

I don't think any of them would have picked McCain over Gore, had he won the 'Puke nomination.

4. I can see 2000 as being a year when dems switched parties in the primary
Gore was pretty much a sure bet in the primaries, so anyone looking for an "outsider" was S.O.L. Look over at the repubs and you have shrub (the ultimate insider) and then McCain, who compared to either Gore or Bush looks relatively like an outsider (even though he'd been in the senate for what? 3 terms) So anyway, add a little Maverick Bullshit and some dems will fall for it and cross over.

5. I was one of those Dems that switched party registration for the
Pa. primary in 2000! From the very first time I saw Shrub when I lived in Tx. and he was running for Gov. I detested that slimeball! Then before the 2000 primaries even began, he and his arrogant backers we sooo positive HE was going to be the candidate because he already had soo much MONEY! I changed my registration within days so that I could vote for McNut! At the time, he did a great job with that Straight Talk Express, and he seemed soo much better that what I KNEW Shrub was. After the Primary, I switched back to Dem.

Even though I wanted the Dem to win the election, there's never any guarantee, and I really didn't want Shrub to get into the WH!

FWIW, the idiot we see on the campaign trail today sure doesn't look anything like the McNut I thought I knew from 2000! I have no idea which one's the real McNut, but the one today actually seems to be worse than Shrub!

6. I can recall a lot of folks here on DU
thinking that McCain was a Swell Guy, and fantasizing him as a VP choice four years ago. Even now there are far too many (although not here on DU, I hope)who do not understand how thoroughly conservative he is.
