Why Don't People Believe That Obama And Hillary Are Getting Along?

Why Don't People Believe That Obama And Hillary Are Getting Along?

15 Aug 2008 12:09 pm

They're not the best of friends, they're wary of each other, but they're on the same page... and yet...columns like these proliferate:

Obama blinked and stands guilty of appeasing Clinton by agreeing to a roll call vote for her nomination. That he might not have had much choice if he wanted peace only proves the point that he's playing defense at his own convention.

Nope. The evidence is that no one "blinked," and if you're still looking for a blinker, Clinton blinked and agreed to what Obama had first proposed in June.

A side note: Clinton will campaign for Obama in New Mexico on Sunday.

Hillary will campaign for Obama this Sunday at Northern New Mexico College, her office confirms.
She's in the state to attend a couple of fundraisers with Bill Richardson to pay off her campaign debt.

This drama is becoming hilarious.

1. Conflict sells more papers than cooperation and it feeds into 'shrill woman' stereotype. nt

2. With a little help from the media, hate can be propagated effectively

3. Here at DU...

the hatred for Hillary is projected onto Obama. Since the purist Obamabots' hate Hillary, surely Obama hates Hillary too. Otherwise, they would never have supported Obama.

It's a convoluted way of thinking.

4. So Obama goes on vacation leaving the media with nothing to do.

He and Hillary script out a convention that will be split almost 50-50 Obama-Clinton including two Clinton speeches, a roll call vote and probable video and the media is left talking about how they don't get along.

In the meantime some other guy is running for president.

Is their anything that shows how marginalized McCain is that during a no-news cycle he can't get above a no-news story about a non event.

Oh yeah, SURGE.

5. People who write stuff like that don't know Washington
Even Tip O'Neill and Reagan, who used to blast each other to bits during the day,
got together for drinks when the cameras were turned off. Justices Ginsburg and
Scalia get together all the time socially. And I count Richard Viguerie as a friend,
even though politically he is the Prince of Darkness.

Some people get along whether or not the media wants them to, or whether or not
their political views are diametrically opposed.

6. Ah, but nowadays they don't go out for drinks with each other, they go out with
the Beltway reporters...

McSame's done this since he first arrived in DC and that's a large part of why he gets such a pass on the big stuff now.

11. Ah, that would explain it
I've been overseas too long. The only Beltway reporter I go out with is Helen Thomas,
and she definitely does NOT do drinks with John McCain! LOL!!

7. CNN was definitely on a democratic disunity tour last night (not that I was surprised)
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 11:44 AM by ErinBerin84
Actually, they do that kind of theme every night. They kept saying that this showed that Obama was "caving in" to the Clintons, or that he was just "afraid of the riots in the streets"(!). Mark Halperin, the biggest pig of them all, was on several shows saying his patented line "Despite what they would have you believe...this is NOT one big happy family!" And Gergen said "This shows the Obama campaign in a really negative light...it was sloppy, and it makes it seem like he is making concessions since these details were not negotiated sooner." If Hillary's name hadn't been included in a roll call, they would have still been pushing the democratic disunity theme, with a slightly different script.

8. Clinton and Obama are fine. The MSM wants their to be fighting.
It makes for a better story.

She's campaigning for Obama, and I have to believe her Convention speech will speak very fondly of Senator Obama.

9. Projection.
Senators Clinton and Obama are getting along very well. Democrats are in for some outstanding news during the convention. Things are good.
