VEEPSTAKES: Narrowing the Names

VEEPSTAKES: Narrowing the Names

BY TAYLOR MARSH

We're getting down to it. On Wednesday at the convention, the topic is "Securing America’s Future - Tribute to Veterans, Active Duty Military & Military Families."

Pick the veep. Time has a good guide: "Obama's Shortened Veep List":

http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/08/re_obamas_shortened_veep_list.html

Those already scheduled to speak are likely out of it, though nothing is locked in. Of those left, only Wesley Clark does it for me.

SPEAKERS
Clinton (speaking)
Sebelius (speaking)
MacCaskill (speaking)
Warner (keynote speaker)
Bayh (speaking)
Biden (speaking)

NOT SPEAKING
Wesley Clark
Chris Dodd
Tim Kaine
Jack Reed
John Kerry
Sam Nunn

Anyone not listed that's in the running? Serve it up and talk it out.

12. Taylor is on summer hiatus. (hopefully, just a "hiatus", that is.)

from her site... sounds a little disconcerting....

TM LIVE on summer hiatus...

"We're working harder than ever to get back on radio. This takes time, so be patient. We're also traveling to look for a new locale from which to broadcast, have a base, report and do politics. It's a very exciting time with many possibilities. I'll keep everyone posted. I'll likely do radio shows on the fly when I can, however, the blog stays the same. Laptops travel!" - Taylor Marsh

9. He is speaking Wednesday, the same day Biden is.
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 03:35 PM by Mass
I would not read too much in these lists. First, Thursday schedule has not been announced and there are still some slots free, I think.

Second, it would be easy for Obama to take somebody announced for Wednesday, or to move somebody from another day to Wednesday, if this person is his choice. (and, if it has to be one of the three names that the media repeat, I hope it is Biden).

10. Richardson is scheduled to speak on Wednesday
Though I'm not sure in what capacity. Because of the Wednesday "theme" happens to coincide with Clark's website, I'm thinking the General might have it, at this point. But Richardson will be there on the right night, so I haven't ruled him out.

Speaking, schmeaking. More likely than not, it's a head fake.
I don't think the list of speakers at the DNC has anything to do with who the VP nominee will be. I'm certainly not ruling out anyone on the speaking list... just seems like a silly way to eliminate possibilities to me.

20. Speaking Roles

Jerome Armstrong over at MyDD made this logical misstep the other day too - - there is no relationship between the speaking roles at the convention and the VP possibilities. The people planning the convention are not the same people advising Obama on picking the vice presidential nominee. And the speaking schedule can be changed in literally 60 seconds.

24. I still think she's not cool for all the batshit insanity she encouraged during the primaries.
I'm cool with Hillary now but it wouldn't have been so painful if it hadn't been for the extreme behaviors from some of her supporters and this PUMA crap.

Anyway though, I think Clark is probably the best choice, despite his recent swiftboating by the MSM.
