Well atleast we know that Ridge is out

No way he would appoint Ridge after that Pro Life demonstration.

It will be interesting to see if at the real debates McCain will admit that he has a 'litmus test' for Supreme Court judges.

He wants to take off everyone that is pro choice for that reason only.

I wonder if there are any pro choice women who are still wondering about their vote tonight?

2. yep he got the applause and lost Pennsylvania tonight
plus he lost every sane pro choice woman in the country.

Life begins at conception

So does that mean no abortion for rape or incest?

I wonder if he is also against capital punishment?

4. You know McCain isn't polling that great in WV
http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/state_toplines/west_virginia/toplines_west_virginia_presidential_election_june_2_2008

Three months ago he was only up by 8 points. You would have thought he would be 20 points ahead there.

6. Agree. Ridge might have packed some punch in Pennsylvania and
in a few other places, but now the pitchfork fundies will demand someone "friendly" to their views.

I wonder how this plays with indies.

9. It's kinda great that McCain is in this position. If he panders Right he
loses the indies. If he picks Ridge, who might actually help him, the fundies' heads explode.

The GOP worked a long time to bag the fundies. Now the fundies have gnawed their way through the bag and have infested the whole house.

12. Ridge's last election in PA was 1998
and was a disaster as the first Homeland Security Chief.

I don't think he could win Public Office on a statewide level if he ran again. We'll see if Spectre retires.

13. I'm encouraged by your assessment.
Hi, Jake. Well, I'm thinking that's good news if Ridge would have to work hard to carry his own state.

And my hunch is you're exactly right.

The Pukes are up against what looks like a very strong blue tide all over the place.

15. 500,000 new democrats and counting in PA
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 04:14 AM by Jake3463
The GOP is actually making calls and writing letters to people who switched parties begging them to come back.

McCain is foolish to be fighting for PA. He only needs to look at what happened to Santorum in 2006 to see what the attitude is to the GOP here right now.

Wait -- there are people in the GOP literate enough to compose a letter?!

18. Its from Spectre
His justification is the two party system is very important and that if the state becomes too democratic we won't have a two party system here anymore

I'm not kidding either.

20. Well, I guess their internal polling gave them an advance preview of
the election outcome, so they had to dig Specter up to pen a letter of desperation.

Here's hoping it doesn't do a lick of good! :toast:

19. I'll see if I can get a copy of the letter from the person at work
who I switched to Democratic for the Primary and post it. Actually two of the people I switched at work got the same letter and phone call.

It's amusing instead of registering new voters they are trying to convince people who switched for the Primary to re-register as republicans. Kind of pathetic if you think about it.

It sounds like Obama's ground game has them really on their heels. Thanks to people like you.

I plan to go out of state to help when it gets closer to the election. Your efforts inspire me.

10. Ridge hasn't won an election in PA since 1998
We are a much different state than we were in 1998 economically and socially.

Ridge rode the wave of the contract with America in 1994. He would have trouble getting elected Govenor today after his little stint in Homeland security.

I'd be happy with a Ridge pick. He's from the western portion of the state and wouldn't turn down the democratic turnout in Philadelphia and its subburbs and he'd bring down the fundie vote over abortion.

McCain would most likeley still lose PA and than lose several southern states as well.

11. McCain is stuck now. Pawlenty, Pallin or Huckabee.
And all three have their downsides.

Pallin might pull in some women - but I doubt it.

Huckabee seems reasonable enough but do people really want him to be one step away from the Presidency?

McCain's latest moves should give Obama the advantage among independents.

14. Agree. McCain narrowed his own list last night.
And it was pretty thin to start with.

He could go whole-hog and pick someone REALLY dangerously fundamental like Franklin Graham.

24. who does he hate more? Romney or Dumbo?
McCain apparently always personalizes his disputes, no matter how minor.

think of all his pug senate colleagues to whom he's been very abusive.....too bad the dems don't start using some of that ammo, when the the canard about his reaching across the aisles rears its head every day.
