* Please spank me if that joke was made before, at least I think I am being original!

I favor Biden the most of the super short list and expect that something will happen when he returns from his Georgia trip..

Biden to Make Own Journey to Georgia

By Paul Kane
As speculation increases that he's a finalist for the Democratic vice-presidential nomination, Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) is heading overseas for a series of meetings with Georgian leaders who are trying to implement the latest cease-fire agreement with Russia.

1. If he weren't in the back pockets of the credit card companies....
I could live with his other peccadilloes. As it is, he destroys Obama's message, even though he's a great Sunday-show attack dog.

2. I think it's Clark
Biden is on the list of speakers at the Convention and Clark isn't, which I think is because he will speak during the slot for "Obama's vp."

4. show my support for Georgia's people?

FTA
Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, said he had been asked to go to Georgia by President Mikheil Saakashvili for talks over the conflict with Russia.

"I am going to Georgia this weekend to get the facts first-hand and to show my support for Georgia's people and its democratically-elected government," said Biden in a statement.

I'm getting real confused. I thought the conventional wisdom was that Georgia instigated this crisis at the urging of Bush/Cheney, Rice and Rove, to prop up McCain. I wonder where Obama's foreign policy adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, stands on this whole issue? Didn't he used to be a real hardliner on Russia? And how do any of these statements differ from the Administration's line?

just primed and waiting for any excuse to retaliate and invade, and that it would have been best not to provoke them and give them a reason. I didn't see the whole interview, but that part I agreed with. Also, he disagrees with McCrazy about kicking Russia out of the G8.

12. I agree with that, too (with the value of hindsight)
I'd guess that everybody in DC feels that way (I even heard that Condi said the same thing to President S and warned him not to do it), regardless of what they're saying publicly.

This must have been brewing for a LONG time, since Biden mentioned Georgia and President S. during a debate last November. Amazing what goes on behind the scenes.

Lugar is one of my faves.

Thanks!

14. Yeah, Lugar is one of my two trusted Repub guys on foreign policy, (along
with Hagel)--he explained that we needed to deal with Russia on a host of issues, including Iran and nuke control. I think his message was that we can't afford to ratchet up the rhetoric to McCainiac levels.

7. Brzezinski is not "Obama's foreign policy adviser".
Right-wingers try to inflate his role because he's unpopular with supporters of Israel and they want to draw Jewish voters away from Obama. It's BS.

9. I've heard conflicting theories that Bushco instigated this, and conversely,
that Rice warned Saakashvili not to make this advance because he wouldn't be able to win it. Don't know if we'll ever know the truth.

It's a dicey situation and I think we, as the US, are caught in the middle since we "support Georgia's democratically elected government". That seems to be the current tact we're taking, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors? That's what sucks about politics -- we can be furious at an ally and disagree with its actions, but have to spout the United States policy.

It's ugly. I don't know how we're going to deal with this.
