Note from Nevada ..... TV ads
I just got back from Las Vegas and between the slots, the booze, the food, the casino erupting in cheers for Micheal Phelps .... I noticed some GREAT TV ads for Obama on local TV. Very effective. McCain's are just the same shit he's running nationally.

So, what did I miss???

Who's dead?

1. The Obama spots are good
I know the ones you mean. I'm in Henderson, outside of Las Vegas.

But this cycle is surprisingly quiet so far. I'm not seeing the typical number of presidential spots and the local races are non-existent. By this time in 2006, Jon Porter in NV-3 was already shamefully labeling Tessa Hafen a carpetbagger.

No doubt it will avalanche beginning after the conventions.

2. Nevada is really in play this year.
Henderson is a very nice place. My sister in law has taken us out there before. The whole valley is SO huge now! I remember coming to LV in the 80's and it was nothing like it is now.

Still, I could not live there. We love to come to LV to play and see Michael's family. It would take the fun out of it if we lived there. But it really seems like a great place to live.

4. I moved to Las Vegas in the mid '80s
You're right, the change is incredible. I still find myself taking routes I knew in the '80s. Then I'll look up and realize there are better options. In those days I could zap around town in mid afternoon, hitting a dozen sportsbooks in an hour. Now I have to park and walk, otherwise I'm stuck in traffic.

I'm in the NV-3 district now. That makes this cycle even more interesting, with the Titus/Porter race and of course presidency. Obama will carry this state as long as he wins the national popular vote by at least a point or two.

3. Read TPM on McCain's ads
He's buying in early and buying in big in eleven swing states. All the differences are in six figures

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/08/ad_buyer_mccain_outspending_ob.php

Iowa: McCain has spent roughly $700,000 more than Obama.

Missouri: McCain has spent roughly half a million more than Obama.

Ohio: McCain has spent approximately one million more than Obama.

Pennsylvania: McCain has spent roughly a million and a half more than Obama.

New Hampshire: Spending is about even.

New Mexico: McCain has spent approximately $300,000 more, and has outspent Obama by roughly two to one.

Nevada: McCain has outspent Obama by $800,000, also roughly two to one.

Missouri: McCain has spent $500,000 more than Obama.

Virginia: Obama has spent a million more than McCain, largely because Obama is advertising statewide while McCain is only up in the northern part of the state.

Wisconsin: McCain has spent roughly a half million more than Obama.

North Dakota: Obama has outspent McCain by around $170,000.
