Who would the most advantagous Republican Veep for US be?
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 02:05 PM by Bicoastal
I'm thinkin' Joe Lieberman. I can't think of many Democrats who can stomach the thought of him oozing his way into the White House, lips firmly attached to McCain's keister.

A few very vocal Dems don't like Obama, but they hate Holy Joe even more.

2. Ridge, Lieberman, Giuliani, any pro-choice one
I know some on DU fear Ridge for some odd reason, but a pro-choice veep for the GOP ends their chances. Their main base are the fundies. They already don't like McCain and I would venture to say that 90% of them wouldn't vote for a McCain/Ridge, McCain/Lieberman, McCain/Giuliani ticket.

4. Mitt Romney.
McCain could kiss the entire evangelical base goodbye. They'll stay home, vote third party or for Obama. Obama will win at least two Southern states.

7. I don't know.
Maybe, but we know that the evangelicals are more at ease falling in line and voting than our entire party is--it's creepy and it makes them easily manipulated, though. I don't know if Romney would scare them away in the numbers that we think--not like a guy like Giuliani or even Ridge might do.

9. People tour evangelical churches
telling them that Mormons are a satanic cult. Most people don't get just how much Mormons are demonized by conservative protestant churches. Ridge and Giuliani would have an easier time getting evangelical votes. They may disagree on some issue but they aren't "the enemy" in the way that Romney is to them.

10. I didn't know that.
Also, I can't imagine it would be easy for McCain--he has a "Clinton" problem with Romney in the sense that during the primaries they weren't exactly friends. It would be very easy for Obama to play clips of McCain and Mittens sniping at each other during the debates and go "If McCain can't even cooperate with his vice president, how in hell will he govern the nation?"

12. Politics over religion ... EVERY time ...
The moment Romney is on the ticket, the freaks will drop all the mormonizing in a heartbeat ...

8. LIEberman or Mittens...
LIEberman would motivate the Dems even more, and Mittens is HATED by the hard-core right...

If Five PLane McCain picks someone like Tom Ridge, it might be a little more palatable to their rabid base...(even though when he left as head of Fatherland Security it was because he wasn't getting paid enough...not sure that VP pays that much more...)

'course Crash McPlane could go nutsoid and pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson or that Alaskan Wolf-killer Palin in a cynical attempt to peel off some female votes, but I doubt it...

16. Huckleberry Hound
With his over-the-top fundie craziness and his psycho dog-torturing son, Huckabee would be a big boat anchor. But hey Freeper lurkers, what do I know? I'm a deranged DUmmie. If any of you have an inside line, push the Huckster hard.

Romney, Romney, Romney
People who didn't watch his gubinatorial race in 2002 have no idea just how big a guber he is.

He lost his first debate miserably and his hack opponent Shannon O'Brien ended up defeating herself in the second.
