As Delaware Sen. Joe Biden left his home a few minutes ago, golf clubs in tow, he was asked where he was going to be on Saturday.

Biden replied, "Here" and pointed down to his driveway.

As he pulled out of the driveway in the driver's seat of his car he then said to the press gathered near his gate, "You guys have better things to do. I'm not the guy."

General Wesley Clark is not attending the Democratic National Convention. I was told by General Clark's personal office in Little Rock that he would not be attending.

Clark was informed by Barack Obama's people that there was no reason to come.

General Clark has been given no role of any kind at the convention.

Rubbing salt in the wound even more, the "theme" of Wednesday's Democratic convention agenda is "Securing America."

or maybe a slider, or, better yet, one of those sneaky pitches like a forkball?

Obama backs Biden's call for Georgia aid

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, amid a fury of speculation about whom he will tap as his running mate, stoked that fire Tuesday by announcing his support for Sen. Joseph Biden's (D-Del.) call for $1 billion in aid to Georgia.

Obama, speaking to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) national convention in Orlando, Fla., responded to his Republican rival's attacks at the same venue and announced that he is joining Biden in calling for funds for reconstruction assistance in Georgia following recent Russian aggression.

Obama has stated that he's made up his mind. This means that all the others who weren't chosen now know that they aren't the guy. Or girl.

Biden sounds cranky. I believe him.

It's possible that Obama will keep them all guessing until he actually walks on stage with The One, a la Miss America, but it's unlikely.

He knows who is, or at least knows that a decision has already been made.

I'm thinking Richardson is a possibility now. Biden and Richardson were both outstanding prospects for SOS. They can't both fill that position, so Obama would be smart to make sure one of them isn't wasted.

I like Biden, but I like Clark more. But then again, who knows what this means?

What's unclear? Either he's not the guy or he's blatantly lying. That's a possibility - but not a good start to the bid if he is.

..and I'm not convinced they're Democrats either...

If General Clark is really out of the running then the only one I could take would be Richardson...

It's clear that the first, second and third choice of the vast majority of us on DU, Kos and other grassroots boards.

We are the people who do the work. Why would he go for the Beltway way of doing things? I thought he was about change.

I would be willing to bet $100 that she's the pick.

the so called list of three the damned dumb recipients of informed leaks have been touting were not only not official(everyone made it sound official) but incorrect? This is typical and the GOP has been interfering in the rumor mill and putting unbelievably bad, even credulous picks out there while trashing the good names. The press suckers follow that lead every time.

For the record.

He dodges the question by saying, "I'm not asking for it" and "I'm not going to tell you what discussed between myself and the campaign".

He meant,

"I'm not the guy you should be f@*king with right now, cause I'm late for golf."

The NY Times late yesterday reported that Obama hadn't made any phone calls to the finalists. Maybe he still hasn't. Biden might not be aware of that and assume (incorrectly) that because no call has come, it's not him.

I think Biden is great and would be honored to have him as VP, but I really think that Clark and Richardson bring more to the table that really could put Obama over the top. Clark has the stellar military career along with NATO commander of Kosovo. (BTW Clark was valedictorian at West Point whereas McCain was like bottom 5 of his Naval Academy class).

Richardson brings to the table the hispanic vote, which is a major voting segment out there that has yet to be utilized. I keep thinking that McCain will try to trump Obama being African-American by finding either a woman or a minority to run for his VP. Selecting someone like Bill Richardson would burst that bubble.

Biden down 0.8.

He sounded disappointed. That sounded like a man who had just gotten bad news. If he was faking, he's a pretty good actor.

Seeing and hearing that, I think he's tellin ' the truth. If he'd have said "That's unlikely," there'd be more"wiggle room."

He's not the Vice Presidential pick. Reading what Biden said made it a bit ambiguous to me, but now I'm sure he meant he's not Obama's choice.

The Illinois connection could be true.

I am not saying he is the candidate, but saying he is not "the guy" tells us nothing. "The guy" could be just about any man in the world, "the VP candidate" would be much more specific. He did not get specific though he just said he is not "the guy". If he were the VP he would obviously be under strict orders not to talk about it until the announcement is made, so this would be a statement he could make to get the press off his back without actually denying anything other than that he is "the guy".

So, well played Joe. I guess you just wanted them off your lawn after all.
