hadball -- have I gone crazy or is this an Obama fest?
chris matthews just said "I completely agree with you and I'm allowed to say so," to two moderate Republicans who are...wait for it....

voting for OBAMA.

why?

Jim leach called Obama the common sense movement of today, Jim thinks Obama is trying to articulate that he is a consensus candidate

female Repbulican -- I can't remember her name, but very well spoken -- she said Obama stood for change rooted in values and choice (repub women for choice is a large group, she said, who haven't had a voice) and balanced budget!

They said many republ are disquieted by policies of Bush to be continued by McCain. Americans don't start wars, but the Bush/McCain people are war-starters. Un american, essentially, though neither said that.

chris m said, "I completely agree with you and I'm allowed to say so."

2. Matthews has liked Obama all along. He likes McCain a bit more, but ...
MSNBC is completely pro-Obama except for some episodes of Scarborough. Hardball and Olbermann are very pro-Obama.

17. He also said Obama is a "gift." Yes, it's weird the man-crush he's got on Obama and McCain. nt

3. I'm starting to believe Matthews is for Obama - based on his Tonight Show appearance.
And now this.

I still expect him to take a few whacks at him though.

4. 'bout time
I broke down and watched today. From what I heard it's been balanced. But I like the tip of the scales segment with those Moderate Rs.

:applause:

5. Wasn't that great?!? If Leach says it that distinctly, he has put a lot of thought into his answer.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 07:00 PM by Frustratedlady
I was especially happy that Chris shut up and let them both speak.

Rita Hauser brought out some surprising points, as well...choice/Roe v Wade among them...and also pointed out that they could not afford another Bush in office. This one had done enough damage...AND that the numbers would probably double in many states, as there were so many Republicans that were disgusted with these war mongers.

I was on my feet, I was so excited. I'm proud of Jim Leach for stepping up to the podium and speaking his piece. That took a lot of nerve and I'm sure he'll hear about it.

I noticed that they distinguished between Jr. and Poppa, even though Poppa wasn't much better in our book, at least he didn't put us on the road to ruin like Jr. has.

9. Thanks for your post, FL..I enjoyed
reading your synopsis. Always exciting when facts are presented on m$m.

I was shocked when I was passing through the room while on vacation in a condo and cbs evening news was presenting a positive interview with one of Obama's adviser's, Valerie Jarrett!

6. did you see the last segment, or the big number?
ALL about McCain's superior numbers re: Russia and experience

not ONE mention of experience vs. judgment

not ONE

McCain's judgment has been as bad as one could imagine WRT Iraq, and Tweety, who's so violently opposed to the war, couldn't say ONE WORD about McCain's egregious judgment in that matter, including his averral that he'd STILL invade again, knowing what he now knows

pathetic

7. I'm proud of those two mod Dems too...
It was awesome to hear that. Those are the kinds of folks I remember from my childhood -- Those kind of Republicans. Loved the reference to Lincoln and how Lincoln would never stand for taking race, religion, etc into account when voting for Pres. (did he say religion or did I just imagine that?) Wow. Those are the values we built the great parts of this country on. We never hear about them anymore except in certain circles. How refreshing.

10. Those people were "my parents" tonight.
For the last many years, I've wondered why my parents were Republican...and, very strong Repugs. As soon as I listened to these two tonight, I saw my parents and I understood. They were for decency and not for war. They wanted to keep as much of the money they made, but never complained about paying what they owed. They were decent people.

Now, all we do is doublecheck everything the Repugs do to make sure they aren't cheating. Look at how much that party has changed.

12. absolutely
I remember my grandparents who were republicans through and through

they never complained about paying what they owed, thought we should make sure everyone had food, access to good education, art, etc...and never expected the govt to be there for them financially -- I remember them turning down health insurance they were entitled to at work so someone else could have it (they didn't care that it didn't work that way). It was all about civility, integrity, gentility too! and that can be a good thing when it brings the value of thought and manners with it...and extremist? No way. Everything was very intellectual. How sad they must be as a party. It is probably the end of the party as it was known -- they're going to have to start over again.

16. He said pneumonia at the beginning of the show.
Also that he'd recently had malaria and diabetes, I believe.

Then Andrea Mitchell commented that we needed national health insurance. Knocked me over.
