Kaine and Virginia Officials Met in Kaine's Office for an Emergency Line-of-Succession Meeting
Might Senator Obama be on track to announce Virginia Governor Tim Kaine as his running mate? Speculation abounds.

The Palmetto Scoop's Adam Fogle cited an insider source that said that Kaine and high-ranking Virginia officials met in Kaine's office for an emergency line-of-succession meeting. Fogle's source said that Obama was either going to choose Kaine, or left Kaine with the impression that he would be chosen.

Kaine, a personal friend of the Senator's, has recently been the subject of speculation that he would be chosen. More recently, he has been on Obama's shortlist, along with Senators Joseph Biden (D-DE) and Evan Bayh (D-IN). Biden today has issued a denial of sorts that he will be Obama's pick, telling ABC reporters this morning "I'm not the guy."

"The Democrats want Virginia to be blue this year," said MOMocrats' Lawyer Mama, convinced that Kaine is going to be Obama's pick. "They want it baaaad. I'm a volunteer for the Obama campaign. I know how badly they want it. Kaine could certainly help make that happen. Kaine is on the conservative side of the Democratic party. He is pro-life and pro-guns. (Although the pro-guns thing is pretty much a given in the South.) This can help Obama with more conservative voters."

after the election for them to plan this.

16. Not necessarily - VA GOP talking about Kaine giving up seat if he runs as VP -
- the following was in the Aug. 18th Washington Post. If Kaine steps down, a republican will take his place in the line of succession. Given this article and the OP, might be some truth to the Kaine rumor:

"Given the state's budget shortfall and an expected painful round of spending cuts this fall, Virginia Republican leaders said today Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) should consider whether he will step down as governor if he is selected by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) this month to be his running mate in the presidential race.
Kaine's four-year term ends in January 2010. If Kaine were to leave office early, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, a Republican, would become governor.
GOP leaders made their remarks after Kaine told the House and Senate money committees "difficult" spending decisions will have to made this fall. If Obama were to choose Kaine, the governor would most likely be expected to be on the campaign trail between now and the Nov. 4 election.
"It is going to be problematic," said House Majority Whip M. Kirkland Cox (R-Colonial Heights). "I am not going to immediately jump up and ask him to step down, but the key is how do you run the state and campaign? Can he effectively make those (budget) decisions if he is out of the state for the next two months? That is the first question that should be asked of him: 'In light of our downturn, what are you going to do to be a hands-on governor?' If he can not effectively answer that question, than I think he does have to consider" resigning if he is selected by Obama."

6. Does anybody get the feeling that we're being played like pawns in a game of chess?
Biden's in. Then he's out. Then he's in.
Kaine's out, then he's in.
Any news from Bayh today? I heard he went jogging.

You gotta hand it to Obama....he is driving the whole nation crazy!
