Barack Obama is a Freaking Genius

He's dominating news cycles DURING THE OLYMPICS, and sucking up all the campaign air and leaving none for McCain.

The speculation around McCain's pick is 1/10th that of the swirl around Obama's pick.

It's the dominant story on all blogs and all news sites and all cable news networks.

...and Obama hasn't even had to say a word.

Absolutely fantastic.

The next 10 days are going to be awesome.

1. His campaign has shown they are the masters of the news cycle.
He did it to Hillary several times during the primary... she would make the news for something, and then he'd steal the limelight from her prematurely.

2. It could backfire depending on his pick and when he announces it
You generally dont make people wait for too long. Sooner or later the fatigue will set in.

9. People can wait 3 more days without fatigue. The excitement is building,
I just hope he doesn't pick someone boring like.. Biden. (ducks) sorry, man.. I just think he's gonna put people to sleep rather than ignite them like a number of other choices would.

I've got my fingers crossed for Hillary.

10. 3 days is a long time and he should not announce his VP on a friday afternoon!
Or the weekend for that matter.

Wednesday is the perfect time for it.

7. From the primaries on, this election has been, and will continue to be, all about Obama....
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 08:22 PM by BlooInBloo
The main issue is whether or not it will be the *truth* about Obama, or the jillion or so lies.

EDIT: Bottom line: the race is Obama versus Some White Christian Rich Male.

14. He's Doing A Rope-A-Dope
Wasting all your bullets now, like what Gramps is doing, is the sign of desparation. One by one, every issue that Gramps appears to be "strong" on is starting to turn into a liability and his acerbic personality and campaign have set a level of stridency that will be hard to maintain for the next 3 months. Despite the corporate media, Gramps isn't landing with his flails...especially with the Independents he needs to make this race competitive. Obama and his campaign are letting Gramps take his best shots and then says "is that all you've got"?

A lot of Gramps antics are "hey look at me"...the sign of a terrible candidate running an inept campaign. Every day there's another flip-flop, another gaffe, another obnoxious claim...and it's begining to show how desperate this campaign has begun. These goons are like caged animals...the repugnicans know they can't run on the "record" and trying to lash out at anything and anyone who points them in the direction of reality.

The real election is still a month from really getting going...people still aren't focusing on the election...especially those busy fighting to keep a home or pay the bills. It's still the silly season where the pundits and spinners are still trying to score "points" in their own little circle jerk and hope they can create a headline or a byline for the small number who really care.

Three important facts that the corporate media can't bullshit away...

1.) There are a lot more Democrats registered this year than in recent memory...holding a large edge over GOOPers in many states (including Swing states)...the prolonged primary helped increase these numbers and if those folks went to the polls once, it's safe to expect they'll make a return trip in November.

2.) The economy, Iraq and boooosh fatigue won't be going away...and is the big "elephant" in Gramps closet. Just cause he says the "surge is working" doesn't make it so. Just because he says drill, drill, drill, it's not gonna lower the price of oil...and for millions this image:

isn't going away either...

3.) Gramps is an inept candidate...he's his worst enemy as he's alienated many who were his former supporters and "moderates" by pandering to the whacko right. If anyone saw Hairball tonight with Julie Howser and Jim Leech, these are former GOOPers who are tired of seeing their party corrupted by the far right and will be glad to burn the village. He still hasn't cracked 45% in the national polls and many don't include third parties...that could suck another 3-5% from Gramps numbers.

While I wish Senator Obama was a bit tougher on the sliming, maybe he's banking on Gramps continuing to over-reach and in the process piss off not just Democrats (making us more determined to bring this shitstick down) but he's losing credibility with his beloved corporate media (each week seems like another stenographer leaves the Bullshit talk express).

Senator Obama's campaign has made it this far by playing smart...not trying to push the game, but letting it come to them.
