Watching Tweety and Chuck Todd, Obama would be doing better if...
Hillary supporters would get into line. According to the NBC poll Obama leads McCain by 3-points, but Hillary, if she were the nominee, would be up by 6-points. The interesting number for Obama is that among undecideds about half are former Clinton supporters. So that is the main reason why he's not doing better in that poll. They said that they are looking for signs at the convention that both Hillary and Bill will give them a positive reason to vote for Obama considering that they spent "six months" bashing him. Hillary is more than willing to do this, but the question mark is Bill. The people who are undecided former Hillary supporters are huge Bill fans.

So we really need Bill and Hillary to enthusiastically support Obama at the convention to get some of their supporters behind Obama. I'm hopeful they will--if they do--and it's a successful convention Obama will come out with a good lead, I believe.

2. I love how they make shit up
How they hell would they know how Hillary would be doing against McCain? She couldn't even win the fucking nomination.

But they are right about the Clintons and their bitter supporters.

4. They polled it.

The Clinton factor
Yet perhaps the biggest factor keeping the presidential race close has been Obama’s inability to close the deal with some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters. According to the poll, 52 percent of them say they will vote for Obama, but 21 percent are backing McCain, with an additional 27 percent who are undecided or want to vote for someone else.

What’s more, those who backed Clinton in the primaries — but aren’t supporting Obama right now — tend to view McCain in a better light than Obama and have more confidence in McCain’s ability to be commander-in-chief.

For these reasons, Hart believes that Clinton’s speech on the Tuesday night of the Democratic convention will be a significant event. “The Democratic convention is more than a coronation,” he says. “It is an event where the words of Hillary Clinton are probably going to be exceptionally important.”

Hart adds, “The Hillary Clinton campaign may be over, but the Clinton factor remains an important part of the election.”

It’s also worth noting that while Obama leads McCain by three points in the poll, Clinton edges the Republican by six points in a hypothetical match up, 49 to 43 percent. But she remains a polarizing figure: 49 percent say they don’t want to see her as president someday, and 42 percent view her favorably versus 41 percent who see her in a negative light.

9. She consistently polled better than Obama against McCain during the latter part of the primary.
Rasmussen also had a poll in July and they had Hillary 8% over McCain.

14. You do realize that was when she was no longer being attacked in the primaries - Obama stopped
because he didn't want to alienate her voters and McCain was trying to woe her voters. Meanwhile, Clinton and McCain were both attacking Obama and, since early June when Hillary dropped out, McCain plus the entire Republican machine have continued to attack Obama.

You do realize that Hillary's numbers (which is 3 % higher then Obama's in the WSJ/NBC poll) would be different if she was the one being attacked by paid advertising and the entire Republican noise machine, don't you?

19. She started polling better against McCain after February.
Do remember that she won most primaries after Feb., and won them all except IN, by 10% or more. Also, more registered Democrats voted for Hillary than they did for Obama. Her campaign's main flaw was not taking seriously enough the caucus states, that's where Obama got his PD advantage, while she got hers from the primaries.

All water under the bridge now.........

12. mission accomplished...
'What’s more, those who backed Clinton in the primaries — but aren’t supporting Obama right now — tend to view McCain in a better light than Obama and have more confidence in McCain’s ability to be commander-in-chief.'

...this is what Hillary wanted when she said "I have a lifetime of experience, John McCain has a lifetime of experience, Barack Obama has a speech he gave in 2002." And, "I've passed the CIC test (whatever that is), John McCain had passed the CIC test, you'll have to ask Senator Obama..." and so on.

And we will see these perfectly soundbiteable bits in plenty of ads, probably during BOTH conventions. And, if Hillary is the vp, it will be used to humiliate Obama at every opportunity.

Mission accomplished!

13. Irritating because his foreign policy decisions ideas have come true/accepted.
With McCain restarting the Cold War, that is good policy restraint?

11. Do you think Clinton supporters are more bitter than McCain supporters?
Cause if you do it's a small wonder why these margins are so tight. You're looking everywhere but where the problem is imo. The problem is McCain and *his* bitter supporters.

21. I thought the CW was Hillary would be coasting to victory
Considering that when Obama was up 6 points, the narrative was "he should be doing better", Hillary's hypothetical 6-point lead isn't that impressive, especially when you consider that she hasn't been attacked for 3 months.
