New Zogby electoral poll-Kerry still ahead

Well into the dog days of summer, the race for President of the United States has all but frozen in place, with Democratic challenger John Kerry holding on to a lead he had built with the announcement of his running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, weeks before their party’s convention last month.

Meanwhile, Republican President George W. Bush has tried without success to make meaningful progress with a heavy barrage of television and radio advertisements in battleground states, combined with an aggressive travel schedule that has taken him coast-to-coast.

Heading into the Republican National Convention next week, little has changed in the minds of voters, the Zogby Interactive battleground poll shows. The collection of polls in 16 key toss-up states shows Mr. Kerry leading, 286 Electoral College votes to 214 Electoral College votes for Mr. Bush.

Not included in the tally are those votes from two states that remain too close to call: Florida, with 27 votes, and Missouri, with 11. Not that several other states are very close to being pure toss-ups as well. It’s just that these two are with mere tenths of a percentage point. Here is the latest Zogby chart of the race:

ZOGBY'S RACE SO FAR:
Aug. 23
President Bush
214
Senator Kerry
286

Aug. 3
B-215

K-291

1. Don't know about polls, but
one of my neighbors was up in Indiana, visiting his mother. She was participating in a poll over the phone. At the end, she paused, and then said, "No." Neighbor asked her about it. Turns out to be a poll or questions from the Republicans-the lady has been lifelong GOP. When asked what the last question was, she said, "Will you vote for Bush for President?"

When folks like this aren't voting Bush, you know the Shrub is in trouble.

2. All of thd projections have Kerry head:
Check em out:

The race is tightening up. For a while it appeared that Kerry might win in a landslide of electoral votes, but in theend, the race is likely to be as close as politicl pundits have been predicting from the beginning, but still likely to come down in Kerry's favor.

4. I think Kerry can win in an electoral landslide
but the surge would probably come late when most of the undecideds swing his way.

8. The Undecideds
will go Bush. The devil you know...

What I'd like to know is who exactly the undecideds are nationwide. Every undecided I know (not a random sample, obviously) is a Republican who doesn't like Bush and thinks Kerry is a socialist. These people (the ones I know) will vote Bush in the end, because they've been brainwashed to think that liberals only want to give tax dollars away to welfare queens.

6. Bush is a MasterDebater and will get Huge Convention Bounce
Bush has never lost a debate, even against Ann Richards. He is a masterdebater and will win hands down.

Expect a huge convention bounce for Bush. His party is really quite moderate, as evidenced by Ahnold, Guliani, and McCain. The show will be smooth, there will be profanity in the streets. Bush will shine in his convention bubble.

7. oddly enough
Both Kerry and Poppy Bush were considered two of the best debaters that ever belonged to Yales Debate Team.

George W. came heads up against Gore because of Gores inability to keep a poker face
during the debates in 2000.

From what i understand, Kerry was and is a master at debate, and there is some evidence from his
days at Yale that we are in for a real trest in the debates.

9. I Thought This
would matter in 2000. The only way anybody could think Bush won against Gore was if the sound was turned off, but somehow Bush seems to be getting the credit for winning.

Bush will get up there and sound all folksy and therefore be branded "regular guy." Kerry get up and sound like a guy who has working brain cells and actually knows something and he'll be branded an elitest college boy. Bet on it.

10. Downside of NYC Protests

I don't think there will be a "huge" bounce for Bush, but I definitely agree on the contrast between the Republicans and the protesters. This will not look good for the Democrats in the least. If the protesters really want to get rid of Bush, the smartest thing they could do is turn around and go home.

11. Take out the "de" in the middle of that word and I agree with you.
Well, almost.
