The Next Smear: Obama Misspeaks, Calls Biden 'The Next President'; Biden Calls Obama 'Barack America
Obama Misspeaks, Calls Biden 'The Next President'; Biden Calls Obama 'Barack America'

August 23, 2008 4:52 PM

ABC News' Sara Just reports: Journalists who were awake until the wee hours waiting for confirmation that Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., was indeed Barack Obama's running mate, cannot be blamed if their hearing is a little fuzzy today.

But after today's Obama-Biden speeches to a massive crowd in Springfield, Ill., many reporters are rolling back the tape and asking each other, "Did he really say that?"

When introducing his running mate, Obama said, "So let me introduce to you the next president - the next vice president of the US of America, Joe Biden."

And then when it was Biden's turn to speak, the Delaware senator called the presumptive Democratic nominee "Barack America" instead of Barack Obama.

More: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/08/obama-misspea-1.html

I remember hearing Obama call him the Vice President. It was almost the first thing he said, and I remember thinking, "oh boy, somebody's going to say something about that."

It reminds me of when I was growing up and my mother used to call me by my brother's name, or my Grandmotther would call me by my father's name, or my uncle. I knew who I was. And I'm pretty sure Biden is not confused that he is the Vice Presidential nominee now.

When Obama was on the View, I think it was, they asked him how does he handles attacks. He took both hands, and brushed off the dust from his jacket, to demonstrate how easy it is to let that stuff go.

I bet Obama doesn't even reply to this, because he doesn't have to. It's stupid. We can defend him. But, just in case, I have submitted it to Kerry's smear fighting website, www.truthfightsback.org. Feel free to do so, yourself.

Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 10:51 PM by Ava
and barack didn't hear it over the crowd :hi:

he also signaled with his hand the "come here" motion and afterward spoke about "when you get up close to the guy"

11. maybe he did, I don't know, the article didn't have a lot of context in it
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 11:07 PM by Kire
It would be useful to find out what he really said, and what lead up to him saying it.

but the press better be careful for picking on Biden for misspeaking

He learned a lot from being teased as a kid for stuttering.

6. They start doing these things people are just going to tune out
just like they do when their kids are jabbering away at them constantly...it's getting really childish...

McCain's gaffes are real and dangerous. These two examples are clearly miss-speaks, no big deal...

13. I think the Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson could find something better than that to joke about
one of Carson's monologue writers came up the phrase "not buffoonish in any way" to describe obama, click on my signature to readmore about it

10. Big. Fucking. Deal.
The economy is in the ditch, people are losing their homes, and we're in the midst of the most criminal/out of control administration in history.

I don't give a rat's ass if Obama calls the man Your fucking Highness. Whoever is trying to make this an "issue" either has entirely too much time on their hands, or needs a crash course in REALITY.

Unbelievable.

16. Another thought, were the so called gaffes planned?
Is this a way to soften the "Biden didn't credit XYZ when he made a speech 20 years ago" flap? Ok probably not but......

;)

19. This might be an uncomfortable subject...
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 04:34 AM by Kire
...but if something did happen and Biden became President, he has experience dealing with a ton of grief because of his wife and daughter dying in a car crash, so it couldn't be a better pick for that reason. Could be as powerful (and memorable) as RFK... God forbid.

22. What he was thinking...
the next President of the U.S., after eight years. Forgot the eight years bit. He then corrected himself, didn't want to appear presumptuous. Do I believe this? No. But...

Another much ado about nothing issue.

Agree, Obama doesn't have to reply to this.
