Biden really wanted to be Obama's VP.
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 12:29 AM by Drunken Irishman
I remember when Biden said he didn't want a spot on Obama's ticket, but would accept if asked. This concerned me because I wondered if he would put his all into campaigning if he really didn't want it. Well I think that was all for show, or Joe warmed up to the idea, because this quote disspells the myth Biden didn't want to join the ticket.

Biden said he would and submitted the requisite paperwork to the vetting committee, but was skeptical that it would ever happen. A longtime friend who requested anonymity to speak freely said Biden wouldn't allow himself to believe he was in serious consideration because his hopes and expectations had been beaten down so much by such a miserable showing in the Democratic presidential race.

This makes me happy. I think Joe sees the potential of an Obama presidency and wants to be apart of it! :)

4. Joe and Barack like each other a lot...
that is the key here. We are not bringing a forced ticket to the table (or is it 7 tables? haha), such as the Republicans if they have McCain/Romney.

I mean, maybe Michelle Obama could, but Barack Obama can't be Barack Obama's VP.

BTW, can we fix the DU spell check to recognize Obama already? Jebus.

2 great granddaughters, ages 5 and 8.

so you're probably my granddaughter's age. her dad (my son) would have been 47.

20. Well I'm not that young.
I'm just teasin' anyway. ;)

In reality, my mom is closer to 60 and my grandpa was 79 when he died in 2002. Of course, my mom had me at a fairly old age.

27. My dad is a mean drunk.
But a lot of that has to do with his PTSD.

I hope my mom lives into her 80s.

When I see Biden and his relationship with his Irish mother, I can't help but see my mom and I's relationship there, too. :)

29. my mom was great until 2 years ago.
she was having trouble finding her words and we noticed that she couldn't work our tv whenever she stayed over. it's pretty simple. anyway, i took her to the doc and she was diagnosed with dementia. now it's really difficult for her to communicate with me or anyone else. she keeps going downhill. the dementia is accompanied by auditory hallucinations. it's terrible. my mom was my best friend and we talked about everything. now she's drifting further and further away from me.

she's still able to live on her own. we bring her groceries and she keeps the apartment clean. i can't imagine putting her in a nursing home where she would have to give up her privacy.

2 years older than me when she had me and my sister (I'm a twin).

9. That quote from his friend makes me sad
I love Joe it sucks to hear he felt so bad about his showing. He was in a field of superstars and he is not the flashy type.

He better come campaign in Las Vegas Cause I am gonna tell him thanks for running for president and thanks again for stepping up to the plate and taking the VP slot.

16. He stood out more than any of the other candidates...
besides Obama, Clinton, and Edwards. He got a lot of people's attention in those debates and had some of the best moments of this entire campaign in a very short time. And I'm like you. I feel bad for him, but the good thing is that his humor and straight talk in those debates got Barack's attention. They were friends before this campaign ever started, but you could just sense Barack was very amused during those debates with some of Joe's zingers at the Repubs and media. Barack has a similar sense of humor. These two are REALLY going to push McNopoly's buttons, and hopefully we will get a MAJOR gaffe from him in response. Some kind of racial slur or something.

And it doesn't have to be a public one. Just someone catching a private comment on tape. Kind of like the Nixon slurs in the Oval office against Jews and pretty much every other kind of person in this country, but those weren't revealed until years later. You can just sense how angry McCain is over this house gaffe, judging by the reports that he views it as an attack on his wife to talk about it. Barack keeps teasing him about it on the campaign trail and I think he REALLY knows how to push McCain's buttons. I hope he snaps at some point and off-handedly drops a huge gaffe and someone, somehow catches it on tape and leaks it to the media. His campaign would implode. As much hatred as there is in the Republican party, the media would not even allow him to be a viable candidate if he did the unthinkable. They would no longer defend his other gaffes like they currently do, and they would bash the hell out him. The narrative would be set.

someone on CNN said earlier McCain will be angry every day when he hears what biden will be saying about him. they said McCain should just ignore him. but i don't think that's gonna happen.

it's gonna be interesting.

28. Yes he did
Time after time people said Joe won those debates. Yet the stars of Edwards Obama and Clinton were just too much to overcome.

Dodd also got the shaft in this race IMHO. Both he and Biden were incredible in the debates yet they got next to no support.

Ah well I love em both and am pleased as a pig in shit to have Biden as VP.

30. Totally agree...
In my head, Dodd and Biden were the best candidates this year. In my heart, it's Obama. Glad to have a mixture of the two on the ticket. And of the two between Dodd and Biden, my favorite is Biden. He has a better sense of humor than Dodd. But Dodd, like Biden, is a straight talker. It sucks that neither of them were given a serious chance by the media. But Joe is getting his chance to shine now, and he will be VITAL to Barack's success. We need an attack dog and there is no better one in the Democratic Party right now than Joe Biden in my most humble opinion.

22. Which could go to explain his statement earlier in the week
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 12:45 AM by davidpdx
saying, "I'm not the guy". It's clear he didn't want to believe he was in the running because he didn't want the let down of not being chosen (I think people feel that way no matter whether your talking about being picked as a VP or getting a run of the mill job).

That certainly clarifies a lot in my mind, though I was behind him 100% anyway.

32. The Repukes are running ads with Biden's harsh words against Obama. Maybe the O camp
can use some of this material as leverage against them. If Biden really wanted to be O's running mate, which I think he either wanted the VP or the Sec. of State spot, then it shows that he thinks highly of an Obama administration.

Frankly I'm shock that no one remembers this:

JUNE 17: Biden: I'd Make A Great Vice-President

Biden says he doesn't want the job, but he would say yes.

Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) enthusiastically confirmed Tuesday his aspirations in a Barack Obama administration, telling reporters that he doesn't want to join the ticket -- but would take it if asked. "I'd make a great president. I 'd make a great Secretary of State. I'd make a great vice president," said Biden, who was responding to reports that he could join an Obama administration. "There are a lot of people out there who want the job. I'm not one of them... (But) you'd have to take it. There's not a single, solitary person who, with Barack Obama as the presidential nominee in this most historic of races, who if asked would say 'no.' I wouldn't say 'no.' I hope he doesn't ask me.
