Obama = bombing of the Capital, the Pentagon, and the shooting of cops
A just saw a 501 c 3 group ad ..... I missed the name of the organization behind the lies
but it was wild; Obama got his political start w/ the help of the Weather Underground
and as you know many of those people think that they "did not go far enough."

Captial bombing pix (1971?), Pentagon Pix, Weather Underground Wanted poster (197?),
and Pix of Policeman that was shot

What do we really know about Obama?????? After all look @ William Ayers!!!!!!!!!!!

It does matter that Obama was 7 to 12 years old when this stuff was happening and
he was in Indonesia and Hawaii at the time either. Nor does it matter that it was
20 years + later when he was on the same board as Ayers.

***********

Whom ever is the group behind these ads I smell Creative Response Concepts
all over this crap.

Barack Obama and his family are the American Dream and yet these shits are selling
us that he is an anti-American radical we should be afraid of .... :puke:

1. CALL that TV station and tell them it's illegal to run that ad

2. Why is it illegal?
It's obviously immoral and unethical, but what makes it illegal?

Just asking because I don't know - I thought it was pretty much "anything goes" for trashing politicians on the public airwaves.

4. Who cares. Just make something up.
There will at least be a panic rush to the legal department.

13. If it really is a 501 c 3 and it really is a candidate ad rather than an issue ad
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 10:07 AM by tbyg52
Then it *is* illegal.

Edited for traditional stupid typo.

18. Thank you!
But I would have to know whether the group is really a 501c, and how the ad is worded, to know if it's illegal.

In other words I am simply looking for some specific facts before I go making claims I know nothing about.

10. Why would you ask such a question anyway
 I'm just curious....

17. Because I care about facts.
I don't support running such ads and I *wish* they were illegal, but I am not going to claim something is illegal when I have no clue whether it is or it isn't.

I wonder why anyone has to ask why I would ask such a question anyway.

15. A 501(c)3 *CANNOT* run such an ad without losing their 501(c)3 status.
A 501(c)4 could, though.

19. Exactly - so we need to know definitively what organization it is, and verify their status,
and then check what is said in the ad to see if it might be crossing the line.

7. There is no actual false charge made and thus no slander.
The indirect link between Obama (age 5-7) and the Weather Underground is through his association with Ayers, and that indirect link is not in dispute. Obama has already dealt with this. He was 5 at the time Ayers was involved with the WU. His relationship with Ayers was through a charitable organization that did indisputably good things 20 years after the WU ceased to exist. Ayers was never convicted of any acts of violence and the only charges filed against him were dropped because of prosecutorial misconduct.

Indirectly linking Obama through Ayers with some of the indefensible stuff that took place in the 60's and 70's is not slander, it is just dirty politics, and protected free speech.

8. you are right
But it still seems like slander to me or as part of the big lie strategy.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. J Goebbels

BTW the stuff I saw in the ad was from late 60s to early 70s Obama was 7 to 11 at the time.

9. this wouldn't be an issue except that Ayers is on record as late as
2001 saying that WU didn't do enough. If he'd been repentant in the 80s or even 90s before his association with Obama then we'd be able to just say BFD, youthful indescretion and tell them to pound sand.

12. Didn't do enough to end the war.
That Ayers quote was purposefully taken out of context to make it appear that he was endorsing more violence. He was referring to efforts to end the war, for which he and I both agree that we did not do nearly enough, not about blowing shit up.

But Obama has already dealt with this issue when Clinton's surrogates used it against him: he was 5. There is no issue here that has any traction outside of the rabid right.

11. If we want to play the degrees of separation game,
McCain hugged W. W is son of HW and grandson of Prescott. Prescott financed Hitler. McCain = Hitler. Cue up photos of concentration camps, German rallies, blitzkrieg, Pearl Harbor (yeah, it was Japan, but most people won't know, plus there is still a connection).

6. Unbelieveable...I'm watching Sunday Morning now...
Haven't seen the ad, maybe it's not for play in my market since we're solidly blue.

There should be a lawsuit, against the network, the parent corp, the local stations and cable carrier, and anyone else.

No more swiftboating, even if a suit puts in deeper in the news, doing nothing is worse.

We've got to call them on their bullshit.

And I also live in a solidly blue state. So they're probably only playing it in targeted areas. Sounds like an extremely slimy ad. :puke:

This works w/ some because the lie will be told over and over again it doesn't
matter that Obama was 5-12 years old when these things happened
or that he was in Indonesia and Hawaii too.
