1. Why would I want to do that?
Then I would have to listen to the media nitwits without the lovely filter of this place.

No thanks I was driven here by the media 6 or more years ago I aint gonna give it up this week.

6. Sad. Only two choices in your life.
And did I say "this week"? No, I said 24 hours.
Do you expect to find much helpful, insightful dialogue here for the next 24 hours? I can pretty much tell you what it's going to look like in advance. THAT is why I am saying it is a good time to skip if you, say, wanted to start a book or something.

20. Hmm, let me have a little peak into the tea leaf filled crystal boll
weevil....

- 9 million threads saying that each and every word Hillary says isn't good enough and that she is trying to destroy the campaign (and all the attendant comments about her egomaniacal ways).
- 4 million threads decrying the complicity of the M$M in the Clinton's nefarious plan to take over the world.
- 425,000 threads about how bad both Bill and Hillary look.
- 2 threads about Chelsea with sad overtones that she had to be raised by such parents.
- 1600 threads about how Bill has corrupted the camera workers so that they show him more than anybody else.
- 25 threads from posters trying to balance the flood of stream-of-conscious hate pouring forth with voices of calm and reason.
- 6 threads about John McCain

There will be a small number of other threads but they will be hard to find because they will drop quickly.

See, I've saved you a lot of anguish and turmoil!

Peace!

Hillary is gonna knock it out of the park tonight and there wont be a Dem in the Joint doing anything but cheering.

I swear I start to get a rash just seeing Wolf Blitzer even in a commercial. In fact, I'm getting some red bumps right now just from typing his name.

specific if you mean any 24-hour period. In that case, yes, I've done it many times.

2. Why do hate DU having revenues?
Traffic equals revenue.

Why not tell the guy that has a gas station "why don't you shut down for the holiday weekend?"

This is a high traffic time because of the convention. NOT talking about it would be unusual.

Since you can clearly choose not to read the DU board, why do you care what anyone else does?

8. I'm just trying to be helpful.
Some people can get too wrapped up in the daily drama here (been there myself), and it's going to be particularly intense tonight.

Don't do it if you don't want to. I'm just reminding people that they have a choice.

And as far as the traffic is concerned, the administrators themselves occasionally encourage people to step away for a bit sometimes. I don't think that's a real problem.

Any other questions?

12. Sadly, I am going to have to stay away permanently soon
My husband decided to quit his over $50,000 a year job 3 weeks before our 20th anniversary and leave me to live and finish raising his sons on my tiny disability check. So the Internet and Cable have to go soon.

I'm enjoying DU as much as I can until then. I love all of you guys and I will miss you a lot.

living day-to-day and don't know what tomorrow might bring. It is important that we are sensitive to our fellow travelers.

I have to say, losing the Internet and DU would be very difficult for me, but the possibility is always hovering in the air.

43. It is so scary for so many financially now
I know I'm not the only one. My heart breaks for every person who is struggling just to keep their home or even feed their family in this, the greatest country in the world. I've really learned never to take what you have for granted.

It really makes me hope and pray even more that Obama can win this election. We have to turn around this RW economy that favors the very rich and ignores the needs of the poor. It is life and death for a lot of people. Sadly.

48. I've had a strong sense that we're headed into
another Great Depression and I had that feeling before all the housing foreclosures. I'm afraid many people aren't even close to prepared for it. I can't say that I am necessarily but I do have good survival instincts having been through a lot of hard times in my life.

There is a heaviness and hopelessness in the air lately and I am hopeful that a Democratic win in November will start to turn that around.

53. That is almost exactly what I said to him when he quit his job
He is so childish at 50 yo, and had no clue how hard it is going to be for him to get another job, and he will never get anything else like the cushy job he quit.

I really think we could go into a Depression in this country easily. And people in this country are so spoiled and complacent, it is going to be devastating if it happens. I feel free to say we're spoiled-cause I know I was. I took things so for granted, now the rug is pulled out from under me, I have no safety net like savings, investments, property to save me. This is such a common story-I read about people like me all the time, but didn't think it would happen to me.

I have 2 sons at home, and 8 pets to take care of. I know I will make it some way, because they have always come first.

It's kind of hard for me to get to the library, cause I can't walk without a lot of pain. And I love libraries-I really miss going.

Thanks for reminding me about that option. It's going to be tough to go cold turkey from the Internet.

65. Thanks for caring-I appreciate it
Thank goodness, my sons range in age from 27 to 17, with just the 19 and 17 yo at home. They both want to work, but I really want the 17 yo to just work on graduating high school. He's a lazy student, and education is everything. My 19 yo is looking for work, but hasn't found anything yet.

I haven't asked him for child support, cause he is going to have a lot of problems getting any kind of job where he is moving, which is his home town, a tiny town in rural Texas. He says he wants to help as much as he can in the future. Maybe he will.

The truth is in reality it's pretty much a hopeless disaster, but I'm kind of a Pollyanna type of person at heart, and I will make it work somehow. My kids and pets mean everything to me, and I won't let them down.

67. No way
This place is like the crack I've never tried! Sometimes I leave it on, logged in, but I walk away for an hour or two. But I just can't help hitting refresh.

72. I only have dial-up at home, so it's easy then!
I house-sit for some people I've known for years. They have high speed, and don't care how much I use the internets. I'm on DU prolly 75% of the time I'm at their house. LOVE DU - 24 hours without it - why try?????
