You know, at some point, he's simply not going to be able to keep topping himself.
I mean, he's got an acceptance speech in November, an inaugural speech in January, several State of the Unions...

They can't just keep getting better and better, can they?

Can they?

Wow...

2. I would not be so sure about that!
He looks nearly impossible to top from here!

Even if he tried it himself...

3. That's such a capitalist perspective
It seems to me a very western, very capitalist concern that one must keep "topping" one's self. I think part of the appeal of Barrack Obama is that he is attentive to the needs of the moment, and responds to the reality of the present moment.

His present mindedness is really an antidote to what ails us. If we adopt that perspective, there's no need to worry about one speech "topping" an earlier one. I trust that he will tune in to the needs of the moment, and respond appropriately.

7. I agree. I think what makes Obama always "top" himself is that the circumstances change that
what he does differently makes him seem that much better compared to last time. But he is still fundamentally Obama-- it's just that he has adapted.

4. his acceptance speech in nov? No
but his inaugural speech? I guarantee it will be the best speech of this century, even being so young into it. If he wins, I'm driving to DC. I told myself that when I decided to vote for him after hearing his Iowa speech in feb.

5. Hm. I'd guess his 1st inaugural will be his best. All downhill from there.

9. It's not a matter of "topping" . . . but rather,
being able to speak to people's deepest needs and concerns at that present moment. Having a finger on the pulse that so sensitive, it makes people stop and take note. That never changes.

10. He doesn't top himself. HE JUST BECOMES MORE RELEVANT AS THE US CHANGES IN RESPONSE TO HIM.
Our country and the entire world have already started changing in response to Barack Obama. The most obvious change was Maliki demanding the very same timetable Barack defined, and Bush being forced to accept it. It's happening everywhere people... BARACK OBAMA IS ALREADY IN CHARGE. The reason his speeches seem to keep getting better is because things are already getting better as a result of his existence and his actions, and he keeps talking about what he's going to do next.

13. At some point, maybe the near future, he won't have to keep
"topping" himself. He will just need to "keep on, keeping on". In other words, execute his plans as promised in his acceptance speech, then advance as current situations present opportunities.
