Barack Obama just won Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and Colorado
Sarah Palin does nothing to help McCain electorally. Obama just guaranteed himself victory in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, and Minnesota. Romney, Ridge, and Pawlenty were the only VP picks that could threaten Obama electorally.

And if you don't believe me, just see how excited the Obama campaign is over Palin! Plouffe was almost daring McCain to pick her. The Obama campaign is enthusiastic over McCain just handing the election to Obama.

6. Probably not, but Plouffe is willing to sacrifice Alaska for bigger prizes
Romney would've challenged Obama in the west and Michigan...no doubt about it. And Pawlenty would've made Minnesota VERY tough for Obama and virtually guarantee a Norm Coleman victory in the Senate race. Ridge would've given Plouffe nightmares about Pennsylvania. With Palin, there's a big sigh of relief from Chicago.

If someone can tell me how Obama loses this thing electorally, I'd love to hear. He's gonna hold the Kerry states, almost a lock now, and will pick up some more. Palin doesn't do shit to help McCain win.

3. It is a sign of GOP plan B
There chances are nil under astute electoral logic. They will go into full gimmick mode, as risky as that is, because that is all they have. Even the MSM cannot keep them from crashing and burning forever for all the required number of tricks in the hands of a fumbling second rate magician.

... Herbert Hoover lost to FDR during the Great Depression.

9. You're right...I don't see how Obama can lose the Electoral College
I really don't see Obama losing a single Kerry state. Before this week, I would never have said that.

The truth is, Ridge would've made PA though, and Romney would've hurt us in MI and in the western states.

I feel much more comfortable today about Obama's chances of winning. I don't see Palin threatening Obama in a single blue state.

25. Actually, they had one candidate who lost a little worse than Hoover.
That was the first time they nominated a Senator from Arizona, so they're trying it again.

7. I see it the same way
And just said in another thread that we will win this 332 to 217 electoral votes.

I gave Obama all the states you mentioned, plus my own state of North Carolina, because the pukes don't even realize the grass roots tide that's going to hit them here on Nov. 4th.

11. Biden sealed the deal for Pennsylvania - that's his home state
You know, when they list President/VPs they list the state where they are born, not where they served throughout their life. So in the History books, Biden will always be listed as being from Scranton Pennsylvania. He will deliver!

12. I disagree
It will all depend on how female Hillary supporters in key states like Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and Pennsylvania react. They can either listen to Hillary's brilliant speech and vote for Obama, or they can vote McCain because he has a woman on the ticket.

Honestly, I don't know what they will do. But if they flock to McCain, then Obama's chance in Ohio and Florida is significantly smaller.

But let's wait until both conventions are done to see what the voters in all these states think.

16. You're selling Hillary supporters short.
Hillary is pro-choice. Palin is a staunch pro-lifer. That is a HUGH difference. Just becaues she's a woman doesn't mean she gets Hillary supporters' vote.

17. Not ALL Hillary supporters
most (about 75%) have joined the Obama team. But there's that other 25% I'm talking about. Not just PUMAs, because only about 1 or 2 percent of Hillary supporters are that crazy, but many are undecided between Obama and McCain and having a woman on the ticket could potentially swing them. I hope they are smarter than that.

20. Do you really think that 25% of Hillary's female supporters
supported her ONLY because she's a woman? Do you really think they can't see the enormous differences between Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin? Do you really think that 25% of Hillary Clinton's female supporters can be swayed by obvious pandering?

19. I don't know if any option would've helped him electorally
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:09 AM by BreatheOnMe
Romney wouldn't have switched Michigan for McCain. I don't know much about Pawlenty and Ridge or about their popularity in their home states. It seems, from what I've heard on this board, that Pawlenty isn't too popular in Minnesota. Ridge has some Bush connections which may have hurt him. For McCain there weren't any great VP picks.

26. Romey, Ridge, and Pawlenty would've challenged Team Obama electorally
not saying they'd win those states, but Obama would've had to invest a lot of time and money to ensure they stayed blue. Now with Palin, Obama can spend more time in places like North Carolina, Indiana, and Missouri.
