This morning I watched Obama's speech again..to make sure I was not dreaming. This is why.
Last night as I watched Obama's speech, I thought of all of the millions of people who were doing the same. I thought about what words they were hoping Obama would use to describe their pain, their needs and their hopes.

I stared in awe at my TV screen (NOT an MSM channel)and listened to him address me and my family, yours, the people down the street and even the people across the globe. I could not help but compare this man's grace and determination with other great leaders I have known in my lifetime. I have seen many of them. I have read their words, spoken to some, watched their progress. All of the great leaders for me were progressive, not regressive.

They call us the Baby Boom generation. The generation that lived through parents and grandparents who survived the Great Depression. Who fought in two world wars, who fought in Korea, Vietnam and a host of other conflicts. In my lifetime, great leaders have sustained the rights of others in countless "movements". I have been there, I have seen it and I have taken part in almost all of them. I did it then for me. I did it for my needs and wants. I did it to support my values.

Is Obama for me? Yes he is. But more importantly, he is for my children, my college age kids and their eventual families. He is focused less on my past and more on their future. Today I value that more than my own needs and wants.

My life is not over. But my goals and dreams are focused on whatever helps America grow, maintains humankind, and provides for a meaningful existence for my young adult children. This election is not about what taxes I pay, although that is important. It is not about a whether my neighbor has an abortion, legally or not, although I prefer that Roe v. Wade stand. It is not about health insurance alone, even tho' my clear preference is that we sustain the health of a species that determines to continually throw themselves on the 'rocks'.

To me this election is about where this country will go in the future. The father and mothers who built this country for the sake of their 'baby boomers' had the same foresight. That is the generational tradition that I want to take part in. Indeed, I insist on being a part of this 'movement'.

I don't want leaders who try to scare me into believing that the only response to terrorism is defensive. I want, I demand, leaders who alleviate fear of the future for my offspring and your offspring by going on the offensive. Leaders who say, let's go forward, sure its scary but let's do it anyway. And let's do it with the conviction of a belief in a common purpose.

For me, that leader is Obama. I have made my choice less for me, more for my children's lives and your children's lives. A population that refuses to live for the next generation will not survive.
That is unacceptable to me.

Please join me in sustaining life by voting for Obama in November.

4. Thank you. I'm still amazed by that speech. It was very portentious.

7. Sadly, yes...
If the MSM looks anything like DU this morning, I have to reluctantly congratulate McCain's campaign for completely derailing what should have been an enormous coup from Obama's speech, and the Democratic Convention in general.

8. I think that they look cheap. Even if I were apolitical, I'd think they look desperate.

9. I think they probably sacrificed too much, but...
they did achieve their immediate tactical objective. And it was a reasonably valuable objective. There isn't going to be another acceptance speech from Obama.

11. Gore was excellent too. How strange, I thought, to hear such wonderful orators after
the middle school schlock of the last 8 years. That too, impressed me. I actually felt like I was in a conversation with someone intelligent in government. Fancy that.

10. As one of the later boomers, I support Obama for ME because I am not "old" and want a life too.
It's great to think about the future generations. But there are millions and millions of us out there who need a future NOW. We can and will contribute a lot during the 30 - 50 years (maybe longer, who knows how much the life span may increase) that our generation will be on this planet. We need jobs, healthcare, continuing education (!!), clean afforable energy, and peace too. And fair and accurate voting machines. ;-)

Please support Obama for EVERYONE because everyone needs a change.

13. And that's what appealed to me about the speech--it was inclusive of everyone's needs and wants.
