1. Somewhat.
I'll wait a week and look at the polls. If McCain gets a big bump, it'll be a great choice. If, however, nothing happens, it'll prove to be a terrible move.

3. Me too. I was thinking that McShame would go this route
of picking a woman and reinforcing the divide in the Dem party. I hope people remember the ISSUES. This is not about black vs. woman. This is about a continuation of repuglican policies vs. a new start! Obama has to drive that point home.

4. I would have preferred one of the higher profile nitwits.
But she appears to be ridiculously unqualified.

The phrase "Trophy VP" should be used over and over and over again by Democratic surrogates.

8. Only somewhat
Because risky picks can sometimes pay off. But I think it will backfire on McSame.

10. Not worried at all. An embarrasing pick. She's not ready to lead immediately...

and that's so important. This is a disaster for them, especially when you consider McCain's age / health.

11. Very worried - I think it means they've abandoned any effort to actually win the election
or to even appear to have won it.

If they are no longer interested in even appearing to hold legitimate power, to me this means they will either resort to other means to retain power OR they will sack this country and flee.

McCain/Palin are throwaways.

17. I know. Something about dealing with the extreme far right always makes me go there.
And yet somehow they always manage to sink below my incredibly low expectations.

13. We'd be foolish to underestimate her. She is NOT "Dan Quayle in heels."
No evidence of it so far, anyway.

She's middle class -- didn't inherit wealth and influence, like Dan Quayle and W.

She couldn't have gotten where she is without being intelligent.

She has an incredibly high approval rating in Alaska.

I don't agree with her on the issues and would never vote for her.

But I've been reading this morning that social conservatives and fiscal conservatives both like her.

And she has something of a reputation as a reformer.

She's taken media attention off Obama, after his triumphant speech.

She is inexperienced, but I checked freeperville after seeing people here post about their reactions, and they seem to feel her very brief experience as a governor outweighs all the years Biden spent in the Senate. I don't agree. But I was never going to vote for her anyway. And she might get conservatives who weren't going to vote for McCain to vote for him anyway.

We'll have to see what happens to the polls.

But calling her "Dan Quayle in a dress" -- unless she truly is stupid, and there's no sign she is -- is unwise. It will seem like an attack on her because she's a woman. And it is never a good idea to underestimate a political opponent.

15. Not worried but curious to see how the media treats her.
Are they going to fawn all over her the way they've fawned over McCain? I just heard someone on MSNBC breathlessly say, "She's the epitome of the modern woman!" Give a me break.
