Anyone who thinks Palin is a "bimbo" check in here
So I can put you on my "buddy" list. :eyes:

Seriously, if you wouldn't tolerate someone making a sexist remark about Hillary, Elizabeth Edwards, Barbara Boxer, Chelsea, Michelle Obama, or any of our other STRONG WOMEN, why are horrible, sexist remarks okay just because we don't agree with her politics?

She's got a LOT of legitimate weaknesses, but she also rose to be the first ever woman governor of Alaska, which can't be easy. It's undoubtedly an old-boys network, and she fought her way to the top.

Let's leave the sexist attacks to McSame and the FReepers. We're better than that.

38. she found corruption in her own party and tracked it back to the
source. the ensuing uproar created an 'incorruptable' aura around her that propelled her into office. it also pissed off her party. her support is with people who remember how she bucked the party to get corrupt people out, not with the party itself who hate her. She was on a quick ride to the top.

Why should we tolerate GROSSLY sexist language against a female lawmaker? Or ANY woman, for that matter?

If he'd picked Jindal, who is equally unqualified, we would NOT be seeing sexist or racist attacks.

10. McCain didn't pick a VP, he picked a head cheerleader.
Listening to her speech today, I saw three things:

1) She's young, attractive, and well-versed in party rhetoric...and she speaks adequately.

2) She's comfortable using the rhetoric-over-substance theme (to the extent of completely ignoring facts).

3) She toes the "John McCain was a POW and he represents real change" party line well.

She's going to spend the next two months traveling the country being a cheerleader...that's her entire job.

cheerleader is the word that came to my mind watching it, too.

She is not anything near a "bimbo." She is far too ambitious and hard working for me to even come close to quantifying her as such. She does use her looks, no coubt, but given what she HAS done with her life, not anything close to a "bimbo."

It isn't HER fault McCain brought he up when she wasn't ready - not that she might ever be, but ...

13. The problem is, horrible sexist remarks have been spewed on this site for years
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 02:06 PM by Chovexani
About Democratic women, Republican women, women of all stripes. Biological women, transwomen, traditionally feminine women and butch women. GLBT women and straight women.

Misogyny on DU (and in the so-called "progressive" movement in general) is like an active volcano. It simmers just under the surface in perpetuity, until the occasional eruption. It never really goes away. A lot of good Democratic women have left this site over it. To even speak of these things is threatening.

Sarah Palin is a despicable, worthless politician and represents the worst the GOP has to offer--bible-thumping, planet raping, need I go on? But the very idea that it's okay to use misogynist attacks on her because she's anti-feminist (as one rocket scientist in another thread said when called on hir bullshit) is not only anti-feminist, it's anti-Democratic.

But then, there really is no difference between some of these "progressive" men (and women, sadly) and the freepers they despise, except for the lever they push at the polls. There is exactly the same kind of ignorance and hatred of the "Other". Exactly the same kind of hypocrisy. The primary proved that for anyone who was still under the illusion that we're "better than them". Now with Palin we see the same kind of Chinese contortionist mental gymnastics being used to justify the vilest hate speech against a woman. Because she's not one of "ours". Because only "our" women are the kind of women that deserve to be treated like a human being (and really, "our" women are not even safe).

And McInsane is laughing his ass off, because that's exactly what was intended by Palin's pick. He wasn't going after PUMA votes, the way everyone says. Let's face it, PUMAs have pretty much made up their minds by now to either stay home or vote for McInsane. No, the Repuke plan is one of divide and conquer, reopening fresh wounds (some of which haven't scabbed over yet). From a snapshot of GD/GD-P, it seems to be working.

I know if I were McCain, seeing the unity that came out of Denver would make me pee my pants.

They have nothing to run on, everyone knows the country is fucked and the GOP is responsible for said fucking, so they're doing the one thing they CAN do: attack our Achilles heel.

Machiavelli's got nothing on them, and we dismiss them at our peril.

The Republican Party has modified their stance in their platform on climate change, they rarely promote creationism (only the radical segments).

These are not mainstream positions within that party, they are RADICAL positions.

Younger Conservative Christians are challening their own party on climate change now, younger Conservative Christians are challenging their party on childcare, education, poverty, homelessness, etc...

Palin is a relic...her viewpoints are Dark Age material, he environmental record (which has chased away many moderate Republicans) is akin to the time before we cut the first tree down. She is as close-minded as a human being can get. She's not stupid no, but she's not smart either.

Policy? Ability to break down complex concepts? Creativity?

Woman or not, Republicans are stupid, evil, or recovering? Why is she being eliminated from section one?

No kidd gloves because she's a woman. That just feeds what so many are fighting against.

I'm not saying she an empty head but I don't see how someone can easily come to the conclusion she isn't. She believes a lot of backwards stuff, it's not a good sign.

It's technically sexist to call Bush a prick, and he isn't literally one, either... but I don't have a problem with anyone calling him one!

Seriously, though; even if Palin isn't quite a true "bimbo," I tend to agree with the posters who cited Dan Quayle in comparison. Quayle wasn't truly an imbecile, but his pick as VP seemed to have far more to do with his being young, "fresh," considered attractive by many, strongly right-wing, and no threat in the intellect department. I wouldn't have a problem with anyone calling Quayle a bimbo, even if he wouldn't technically *qualify*; thus, to say the same about the strikingly similar VP pick of Palin doesn't seem that objectionable either, at least IMHO.
