Boxer's statement on Palin - Thanks Barbara
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/29/mccain-vice-president/

The Vice President is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour’s worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice.

If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart.

Senator McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a women on his ticket, such as Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison or Senator Olympia Snowe – they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice. In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature which makes this more incomprehensible.

53. Very telling if McCain says "She's got as much experience as Obama"
No national scene experience. But has not demonstrated any good judgment and judgment trumps experience. What good is 39 yrs of being wrong...that is not experience...that's a reputation

So far everyone else has seen fit to tread very carefully. Understandable but I think Boxer really nailed it, especially with the tribute to other Republican women. That might just put the cat among the pigeons. McCain goes for the younger model..again.

57. There was a tribute given by what appeared to be the Women's Caucus
one of the nights of the convention and the stage was filled with Dem. women from both the House and Senate, with presentations given by several of them. I was busy reading threads here and only paid casual attention to it at the time, so I'd have to go through my tape and check out the shots to see if I could determine if she was there... But in any event, the stage was full with Democratic women in Congress.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:25 PM by D__S
Neither are wise choices either.

Hutchinsons Texas is right next door to McCains Arizona. Voters expect some regional disparity.

Suggesting Snowe is just plain idiotic.

She's probably as or more Liberal than some Democrats... Conservatives despise her.

McCain needed someone to bring the Evangelicals back to the voting booth... he might very well succeed in that with Palin.

If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken.

Partially correct. Palin won't attract Democratic Hillary Clinton voters. Independent/unenrolled Clinton supporters are another matter.

35. Boxer is not in the business of advising McCain. she is pointing to the glaring
problems with Palin. And she is justly pointing that choosing Palin and her non existent record in basically everything is an insult to those qualified women the Democratic Party has.

As for Independent Clinton's supporters, as soon as they will see Palin' record and positions on issues, they will run away from her.

60. I thought the exact same thing except being from PA
and knowing her past history, I realized that she would be equivalent to a Romney on the ticket in terms of having big $$$. Plus she is inextricably tied to the usual repuke tactic of racial-profiling (which she participated in herself as Governor of NJ), and that alone would torpedo the choice... Although when absolutely desperate, the repukes will break out the race card as part of a "law and order" agenda, without question. As it is, given her and her husband's finances, they have been under on and off investigations for his investment firm.

73. good point, Barbara
and why wasn't this an effective argument when a Texas governor was running for president? Why did his lack of experience with national issues not deter nearly half of the country from voting for him?

oh, yeah. right. Thank you, Mr. /Ms. Media.

74. I love Barbara Boxer, but I don't understand her comment about national experience.
How many hours of experience on national issues did Jimmy Carter have before he was elected? Or Ronald Reagan? Or Bill Clinton? Or Dubya?

Just sayin'.

77. All had been governor for more than one term, including Dubya and therefore had more chances
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 04:25 PM by Mass
to have been in contact with other states problems. Clinton had been NGA chair. Dubya had worked in the White House (I know how little he did, but on paper, it sure looked better), Reagan had been governor of California, and had probably been talking to other states and countries concerning trade issues. I do not know enough about Carter, but we are talking here about somebody who has been governor of a very special state for one year and a half and before that mayor of a 9000 people town. How does that qualify her on anything close to governing the country?

85. Thanks, Mass. I agree with what you say-to a degree-but I think it's an "iffy" argument
that we should stay away from.

IMO, we should focus on specific items that she has done or has not done and lay off the inexperience issue.
