by such a irresponsible pick for the VP slot.

9. If by "not to comparable" you mean "very similar" I agree
The Quayle selection was quite similar -- one can argue whether it was more or less irresponsible, but in the ball-park.


Commander in Chief was even more important in cold war 1988 than in 2008.
Quayle was picked by a perceived moderate only to assuage the RW base.
Public reaction to Quayle was universally negative.
Quayle was the worst polling VP pick in the history of polls.
Bush's campaign was all about whether we could trust Dukakis with the big-boy job, which was completely under-cut by the Quayle pick.

Biden and Palin are a good analog of Bentsen and Quayle.

Sorry, it's very similar.

Hardly. Did we have troops on the ground fighting a war in 1988? Um, no. Were all our allies alienated from us leaving us vunerable globally? No.

BushI was running off the good feelings of the prior Reagan years, so most everything was forgiven, even a stupid pick for VP. Not so here. The prior 8 years were disastrous. No one is in a forgiving mood.

Palin and Quayle are both lightweights, no doubt, but the times and the general feelings towards the Repubs are far different.

I mean what kinda mother does that, and then goes back to work 3 days later.
I think they can handle Alaska without you for a least a month.
I mean not much goes on up there.
