DU MEMBERS: If PALIN was a MAN what would you be saying........
because we need to stick to those same arguments!

Right Wing Religious Nut (School Prayer, Teach Creationism)

NO Experience!

Tied To Big OIL!!!

Drill everywhere!!

Now, picking a woman was a mistake because they think women will vote for an unqualified woman which IS NOT true. You are free to attack McLame and the GOP for that but DO NOT say anything about HER that you would not say about a MAN!!

Come on people, we are the party that want women treated equally!! So lets just treat her like any other man and lay off the sexist stuff!!!

This pick shows McSame's contempt for women more clearly than anything he's done. Democrats need to call that out.

27. Sorry about that. Palin really scares the heck out of me.
I know these people, they live all around me. She just doesn't have the capacity or world view to be anywhere near the White House.

7. If Palin was a man DU would be saying he's gay, but using other language
DU is a fucking cesspool.

When Skinner left that troll post up for everyone to tee off on many of the comments were stomach-turning gay-bashing of the sort DU loves so well, like "Get Sean Hannity's dick out of your ass!!!"

10. I agree.
I think the fact that she was selected for cheap political gamesmanship--because she's a woman--and that there were many other more qualified women is an issue that's fair to discuss.

But truly misogynistic remarks are inappropriate and counterproductive.

I can't bring myself to call her vindictive for trying to get the man who abused her sister and allegedly tasered their kids to leave the state. Can't say if I were in the same position, I wouldn't have done the same thing myself. Especially if she felt the guy was still a threat to the sister and kids.

However the obvious lack of qualifications and extremist positions would make her a disaster. And she's so anti-environmental when practically the whole country feels environmental protection is critical.

14. it's why McCain chose her.
He is the one pandering to sexism, not us that point that out. She is underqualified to be VP. I have no problem with a woman being chosen, but why not Hutchison (or even Rice)? Both have vastly more experience.

15. Recognizing that there are gender related issues doesn't mean people have to go with a bimbo theme
Is it too much to ask for folks to simply use common sense and reasonable discretion in dealing with them?

Probably so on a message board

Due to some fairly wierd election rules, a dark horse nobody had ever heard of got elected Premier of Alberta.

Next day at the office you could overhear the starts of conversations...

"WHO!?!?!"

:wtf:

"Never heard of him. What happened to (second favourite)?"

20. If she were a man, I'd be saying the exact same thing.
Problem is, the rethugs are trying to use her gender against us. Can you just picture the VP debate? Is Biden going to be able to hammer her on the issues without looking like he's "beating up on a poor little girl"? (For that matter, is Obama going to be able to hammer McCain on the issues without looking like he's "beating up on a poor senile old man"?) Whatever the actual facts may be, it's all about perception and packaging at this stage. That's what's making me sick.

22. You are correct Kansas. We need to focus. She represents the same interests that gave us
Bush Cheney. I will need to read more about her, especially with respect to her attitude toward the recent abuse of the Constitution, but on the surface she appears to be a right wing extremist of limited experience who was selected because of her gender and because Katherine Harris crashed and burned.

The only reason to learn about this is to be prepared for argument cause there is nothing the repukes could do to get my vote in my lifetime.

25. I would list everything you listed, plus the ongoing investigation into her and then add that
ANYONE with five young kids should not be running for VP or Pres. and then claiming family values, truth of the matter is, those kids will never see their mother. One or 2? Doable - hard but doable, 5? That's just way the hell out there.

Shocking Choice by John McCain

WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

"Senator McCain's choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

"Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP, has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska's coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

"This is Senator McCain's first significant choice in building his executive team and it's a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain's commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil."

34. I made fun of Romney for being a pretty boy
so could I call her a Barbie Doll? Of course, I also made fun of Edwards for it too. But never seriously. I don't care if she looks good or not, I care about policy when it comes down to it. Unless somebody conducts themselves terribly, I usually only vote on policy. Such as if I tend to agree slightly more on policy with somebody, but they take terrible cheap shots at another Dem etc, that makes a difference to me. But, by and large, policy. Experience often don't even matter that much in certain areas, judgment and good policy does. Some of our greatest presidents, like Lincoln, for example, didn't have much experience. But he had the judgment to keep out country together and win the Civil War.

While McCain has experience, and Palin has little, neither one of them have much judgment and would know good policy if it whacked them upside the head. That's the endgame for me.
