I know that with all of Palin’s shortcomings, everyone’s really tempted to pick her apart. But don’t, otherwise you make everything go according to their plan. See, the right wingers didn’t get Bush elected twice by sucking at politics, they know exactly what they’re doing and it’s working so far. This stunt was specifically crafted to distract from the last 8 years of Bush/McCain failings and to divide our party again.

They do this shit all the time. Ever notice how when you’re having a debate with a right winger, they bombard you with failed arguments, one after the other? That’s how they always stay in the fight – how they make it seem like they have any fight left in them. Don’t let them do it with Palin. She’s not going to help McCain’s chances, she’s not going to call the shots on that ticket. Don’t waste any time on her. It’s all part of the show.

Let’s focus on making them own their failures. Don’t let them distract you with new ones.

Obama 2008!

6. How would showing how horribly bad their VP pick is play into the Republicans hands?
It is not a distraction to show the public that McCain picked a VP who is under an ethics investigation and a few weeks ago admitted she didn't even know what a VP is. People need to focus on Palin, we need to pick apart the GOP candidates and she is now one of the most prominent GOP candidates in the nation.

10. thats just it. no one believes shes a good pick for mccain, but picking her apart is a waste of time
it distracts from mccain. hes a failure. the more we give palin attention, the less the masses will think of bush = mccain. thats the winner. theres no need to attack palin, shes an obvious bad choice. shes a waste of time.

12. How does pointing out McCain's lack of judgment in choosing her distract from McCain?
Palin is tied to McCain, anything that makes Palin look bad will make the person who thought she would make a good Vice President look bad. And by the way most people do not know who Palin is, this means that to most people she is not an obviously bad choice unless we are able to point out to them why she is a bad choice.

15. thats fine, shes a bad pick. but if you focus on her, mccain goes under the radar again
and people lose sight of his being bush's twin.

17. How does focusing on McCain's VP candidate take McCain off the radar?
When people go to vote in November if they want to vote for McCain they will have to vote for Palin as well. Both candidates need to be attacked, to ignore one of those candidates would be an enormous mistake. No one is suggesting that we ignore McCain.

9. Agree 100%
The fight is with McCain. He has been mortally wounded by House-gate, so by staying on-message - that they will be 4 more years of Shrub and will continue the fascist takeover of the U.S. - this will drive the Dems forward.

Right now, Daschle is on-message (MSNBC).

13. I'm sorry, but it's crazy to ignore a VP pick as a diversion.
We can aim plenty of criticism at Dubya/Cheney while also criticizing Palin. In fact, the Palin pick can be seen as a continuation of the Bushista practice of appointing incompetents on the basis of their ideological purity. Thus, we can criticize Palin as yet another instance of the continuation of Bushista practices under McCain. And we can also remind the electorate of older GOP history: as in the disastrous "Spiro who?"

14. It will wear off

After next week's dog and pony show, Palin will have to campaign and explain her radical positions and then meet Senator Biden in debate.

The nation will tire of her quickly. She's trotting out the 'free market capitalism' cliches'...like they haven't been running this nation under those auspices already. She'll soft-peddle ever single controversial issue and Biden will call her on it.

By election time, the real decision on who you trust to run this nation SHOULD BE CLEAR.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 05:53 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
The first test of potential president's decision-making ability is who he chooses to be his running mate. This choice screams political pandering from the highest mountaintop. In addition to be experienced, Palin comes from the same Republican cesspool that spawned Ted Stevens (with whom she is still politically connected).

The first job of a vice president is to be ready to step into the Oval Office should the president be unable to continue. You really think the 1984 runner-up to the Miss Alaska Beauty Pageant is ready to rumble with Vladimir Putin?

Don't pick her apart? Fucking tear her limb from limb.

23. Off Message?
You mean the message that John McCain lacks the sound judgment to be President?

You don't think that appointing the Mayor of Wassili, AK to be the Vice President doesn't show jaw-droppingly, abysmally poor judgment? And considering that said Veep nominee appears to be waist-deep in corruption, you don't think that's a message we should be communicating?
