Documented rebuttal for Kerry's records "not all released"
And with as many rightwingnut links as I could find that were still credible-ish.

Both candidates have already released more than the law requires. Both candidates have already surpassed these rules designed to protect their privacy.

Neither Bush nor Kerry have signed Form 180;

At the White House, press secretary Scott McClellan said he couldn't say specifically whether Mr. Bush signed Standard Form 180, but the president did request and release his own military records in February.

"I don't believe he signed any form, but he did authorize making his military records available publicly," Mr. McClellan said. "We have released all the records, and reporters were allowed to look at his medical records as well."

www.washingtontimes.com/n...-3874r.htm

Both Bush & Kerry refused to publicly release some medical files, but both allowed reporters to view in person;

Bush's medical records were opened for examination by reporters in the Roosevelt Room, but those documents were not allowed to leave the room...

The Kerry campaign allowed 19 reporters who travel with Kerry to talk to his doctor and view the medical file for about 30 minutes.

Why rightwing pundits say Kerry hasn't released all his records; they're referring to his private journals that he has refused to release. He gave his journals to David Brinkley for Brinkley's book. These are journals Kerry kept during his 2 tours of Vietnam.

{I can't find a link, but I've read pundits 2-3 times demanding Kerry hand over his private journals; if anyone can find a link that would be fab!}

Kerry's campaign say there are no official records unreleased.

1. I believe Brinkley has an exclusivity agreement for the journals.

2. Right but...
that's not what I meant, sorry I wasn't more specific. And if I were Kerry I'd tell them to shove it, those aren't official records and none of their damn biz anyhoo.

What I meant was, I'm looking still for a link(s) that show the pundits demanding Kerry release HIS JOURNALS.

Right now they keep going on and on saying "Kerry hasn't released all his records"...but what they MEAN (ie mislead) is he hasn't released his PRIVATE JOURNALS.

That's what I'm looking for; a link to a pundit saying "Kerry won't release his private journals"./b]

3. I agree, his personal Journals should not be called "records".

5. For sure they shouldn't
But I suspect the pundits are DELIBERATLY saying "records" just to mislead people.

If I can find one sentance of 1 pundit saying JOURNALS, voila. ;)

Ta re the link, I'll fix it in a min...

7. Bob Dole asked for both
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 08:53 AM by DoYouEverWonder
Mr. Kerry should apologize to Vietnam veterans and release his military records and personal journals, Mr. Dole said.

"I think this has certainly damaged Senator Kerry. And I think it's partly his own doing," Mr. Dole said.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040823-124014-1219r.htm

edit: here's another that mentions both from the Washington Post:

Mr. Kerry's conflicting statements about where and when he was in Cambodia remain troubling. He has backed away from repeated claims that he spent Christmas Eve 1968 in Cambodia, a memory that, he said in a 1986 Senate speech, is "seared -- seared -- in me." This does not undermine Mr. Kerry's military bravery, but it does raise an issue of candor. It's fair to ask whether this is an episode of foggy memory, routine political embroidery or something more. Indeed, the Kerry campaign ought to arrange for the full release of all relevant records from the time. Mr. Kerry granted historian Douglas Brinkley exclusive use of his wartime journals and other writings; the campaign should seek to be freed from that agreement and to make all the material public. Though the ads are being underwritten by longtime Bush partisans, the Kerry campaign's claim of illegal coordination between the Swift boat group and the Bush campaign is unconvincing.

8. Here's an editorial from the National Review
Who are doing a real good job of smearing Kerry and going along with all the Swift Boat Lies. However, so far I can't find anything that just talks about the journals without talking about the rest of it.

------------------------------

The "fog of war" no doubt explains some of the conflicting accounts, which may never be resolved. But we still don't have all the information. For months, the Swift boat vets have been calling on John Kerry to authorize the release of his complete Navy records, only selected portions of which have been made available by his campaign. We should still see his full personnel file and his medical records. For good measure, Kerry should release his wartime journals and his films of himself from Vietnam. The press can do its part by not acting as though its sole job were to discredit the Swift boat vets, and by reporting instead on the substance of their allegations (as Michael Dobbs recently did in an evenhanded front-page Washington Post story on the Bronze Star incident).

Kerry so far has hoped to get away with falsely charging that Bush is responsible for the ads and calling the Swift boat vets "liars," an accusation that hasn't affected them much since they have been called much worse by John Kerry. The contradiction at the center of Kerry's political persona is that he now wants to pretend that Vietnam was a noble war populated by American heroes, when he made his name by smearing it as an unworthy war waged by war criminals. Kerry can probably never fully resolve that contradiction, although he could make a start by repudiating and apologizing for his 1971 remarks. But that might require more moral courage than Kerry has ever mustered, in Vietnam or after.
