What's up with this silver star with a v thing?
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 12:20 PM by HootieMcBoob
What the hell is this all about? Do these bastards stop at nothing? It's like they have a hundred people lined up to smear him and it stinks. Does anybody know anything about this? I just looked at the official records from his website and the citation awarding him the silver star says nothing about a v. The dd214 does have both silver star with a v and bronze star with a v? Is this anything?

<edit: spelling>

1. I always thought the Silver Star was for valor, no need for the "V"...
Unlike the Bronze Star, which can be awarded with the "V" for valor - earned in battle. It can be earned other than in direct combat, is my understanding. Kerry did have the Bronze with Valor...

4. last night a navy admiral was on Scarborough
and was saying that the navy doesn't give out silver stars with the v and that Kerry is lying about having received one. Now it's all the rage in freeperville. It's like it's the next nail in the coffin or something. Like I said his dd214 does say it but there's nothing about it on the actual citation. I've never heard Kerry himself say anything about this and I've never seen the actual medal or the medals that Kerry has.

I just wish Kerry had a rapid response team the way Clinton did in '92 to deal with this shit. What happens is it sits for day and stews and takes on a life of its own. That's what happened with the swift boat fuckers and I would like to see this dealt with immediately.

Kerry has got to go on the attack and attack hard. This shit is getting ridiculous. Like Mike Papantonio says Kerry needs to go negative. People say they don't like it but it always works.

2. I thought the Navy admitted it was their mistake.
V would be redundant.

3. Clerical error
A Silver Star can't be won without valor, so the valor is implied. A Silver Star with V is like saying a McDonald's hamburger with hamburger. Whoever wrote it down made a mistake. The valor is inherent in the Silver Star.

5. Then somebody needs to deal with this.
Some pro-bush Admiral who should know better gets on a conservative television show and it goes out over the air and people who don't know better begin to think that Kerry's making something up or taking credit he shouldn't be taking.

6. It is simple
They are trying to turn a clerical error by the Navy into a plot by Kerry to enhance his honers.

12. It's an error. Someone typed the Bronze with a V, same with the Silver.
It's an official document with a clerical mistake. Kerry had nothing to do with it. People are going to believe what they want to believe. Best to let it die.

14. I Don't know what is right
Whether it would be better to let it be.
But to me it is sure evidence of a deliberate attempt to promulgate a false impression of the truth in the minds of people. That may not be criminal but it does show a lack of morality and points to someone that would do anything necessary (In particular lying) to win.

7. Well we all know Kerry personally typed out his own DD-214
Just like he personally awarded himself all the medals he received. You can tell none of these Freepers actually served in the military and this Admiral should be ashamed of himself for his distortions.

8. I think someone got wind of Walt Starr's discovery
about Bush's medal and decided to turn the tables for something similar on Kerry before it got out.

Think about it. Walt's thread started this week and I have heard nothing about the "V" controversy until this week also.

9. you're probably right
but that is exactly what I'm talkin' 'bout! They obviously have people who are doing "rapid response". Where is the Kerry team's "rapid response". I don't want this to take on a life of its own. Nip it in the bud. We all know what the deal is but the average voter out there doesn't.

11. See here for photo evidence that he was awarded a Silver Star
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=683760&mesg_id=683760

It's just more crazy freeper baloney, they're so scared their guy never did squat in the TANG that they have to claim some sort of ancient conspiracy to fake a bloody SILVER STAR.

13. Lead story
I am sure this will be the lead story on CNN all weekend long. Kerry earned the medal - enough said.
