GOP Convention Delegate Drops Out Over Bush
I hope this isn't a dupe. I haven't seen it posted yet so here it goes:

http://www.ktok.com/script/headline_newsmanager.php?id=343572&pagecontent=nationalnews&feed_id=59

One of the 2,509 delegates to the Republican National Conventions has dropped out because of dissatisfaction with President Bush.

snip

Calling the decision to drop his position one of the five hardest he has had to make in his life, Walters said he plans to cast his first-ever vote for a Democrat for president in November.

:)

1. Did any Democratic delegates quit?
I don't think so (though I'm not sure).

4. I haven't seen any news reported if it did happen.
Most Democrats can see that this is the time to be a team player.

2. I think he's a Log Cabin Republican
makes sense that one of them *might* finally get it.

3. What incredible spin on that
The station runs the article, but does everything it can to trivialize it. The lead sentence is clearly an attempt to minimize the fact that a GOP delegate has dropped out. Delegates are the core of the party. Those people are among the least likely to change.

5. Good point....
it takes a lot of work and commitment to be a delegate so to have one not only drop out, but to cast a vote for the opposite party is pretty big.

6. Not on DU most of the time, so I find 'dupes' to be invaluable!
If a Democratic Delegate had dropped out, it would have been Mass-Media-24/7, sooo...
I don't think so!

7. There are an additional 144 delegates who are going to have to drop out
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 01:27 PM by rocknation
...In direct violation of DOD policy issued August 02, 2004, the Republican National Convention is touting 3% of it's 4800 delegates (144 delegates) as active duty military personnel.

DOD Directive 1344.10 under section 4.1.2.3 is:
4.1.2. A member on active duty shall not:
4.1.2.3. Participate in partisan political management, campaigns, or conventions (unless attending a convention as a spectator when not in uniform).

11. I wonder how many will feel comfortable crossing First Responder
picket lines.

If there are FR delegates, it could get VERY interesting!

8. GOOD.
I hope there's 2,508 just like him. They need to come to their senses. Supporting the chimp is supporting a fascist regime. Why are they all so stupid?

9. What's with Repukes and Their "Top 5" Life Mistakes?
Merrie SPAETH said the same thing about her role with the smear on McCAIN. But that didn't stop her from doing it again with the swiftbots.

Merrie Spaeth

Merrie Spaeth is "the public relations consultant representing" Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT). "According to CBS television news, election commission records gave the maximum possible £2,000 donation" to the Bush-Cheney '04 Inc. re-election campaign in June 2003. <1>

Her role with the SBVT attack on Kerry prompted the Kerry campaign allegations that she played a role in attempting to discredit John McCain in the Republican presidential primary in 2000. Spaeth told National Review that she was approached to provide PR support after the two Texas millionaires Sam and Charles Wyly, created the front group Republicans for Clean Air to attack McCains environmental policies.

Spaeth said that she agreed to field press inquiries for the group. It "turned out to be the biggest mistake, at least one of the top five," of her life, she said. "I regret being involved in any way," she said. <2>

Spaeth, founder of Spaeth Communications, Inc., "served as a White House Fellow and was assigned to FBI Director William Webster. She was the first Fellow and one of the first two women on the director’s staff. From the FBI, she served two years at the Federal Trade Commission as director of public affairs, and in 1983, President Ronald Reagan named her director of media relations at the White House. Merrie introduced satellite communications to the White House, and the electronic White House News Service. One newspaper headline said she 'took the White House into the Space Age.' <3>
