I found this article in The New Republic and I highly recommend it because it will refute Cindy McCain's version of her father's success, and sheds a lot of light on her relationship with John McCain and how much she orchestrated his political success in the early years of their marriage.

Hensley eventually broke ties with his former mob associates and tried to make the family respectable. It seems Cindy was made to feel that it was her responsibility to help with this goal by marrying someone respectable.
If you do nothing else, go to page 5 of the article and check out the video link to McCain first campaign ad when he ran for Congress back in 1982. I know you'll be **shocked** but he talks about his POW experience and uses footage of himself getting off the plane after he is freed.
It seems that some things never change.
