This stinky choice is just beginning to ooze with problems for the ticket.

Just a hunch, but I'm willing to fill up her prius if not.

=)

1. I doubt he gets rid of her...
dumping her would throw the campaign into even more disarray.

2. I have heard rumblings that some repubs
may do nominations for veep from the floor at the convention, that's how upset a lot of them are. Especially moderates. And she doesn't appear to have been well-vetted; her ethical issues alone may start to cause problems really quickly.

Of course, there's always the "family" issue exit-she might do something along the lines of "I didn't realize how much time and energy this would take away from my husband and children, especially my newborn, and have come to understand that this may not be the best choice for me at this time, and in order to spend more time with my family, blahblahblahblah."

8. I don't think she will last three weeks
It is only a couple of months until the election. Three weeks sliced out of that is half that time with McCain campaigning with a huge weight hanging around his neck. He will dump the dead weight and grasp a less controversial number two.

I think Palin will be history within the week.

Sam

And she will have gotten what she wanted -- to be a historical choice.:-)

20. But the Libertarians already have Bob Barr and
he was actually polling at up to 10% in some states. He may actually become the H. Ross Perot of this campaign if he can get on the ballots of the swing states. I can easily see him picking off disgruntled repukes who don't want the McCain/Palin ticket and will never vote Democrat.

All my Republican relatives and neighbors are excited about this. They went from "I"m gonna hold my nose and vote McCain" to "All right! A ticket I can be excited about!"

Go figure.

23. Elizabeth Dole would have been an inspired choice, Historic NY
I doubt McCain would have had the sense and cojones to have even asked her to be Co-Prez. IF he had, Dems might have had something to fear.

42. Yes, you're right: age is a big factor
My mother dies of lung cancer at age 72. The sad thing was that at age 72 her intelligence was operating better than ever. I've known people who were seriously dimming (mentally) at age 45 and those who were smarter than ever at 72.

However the physical energy level declines a lot after age 70.

13. Just so long as she keeps pandering about Hillary, yes I think you're right.
Funny thing is that if it were to happen it would make the ticket weaker regardless of whether Mittens (or Willard Milton as I prefer to call him) gets the ticket because it shows that McCain is inanely weak even in such a mundane task as picking a VP. I mean, who could fuck that one up so much that they quit? Seriously! It's not exactly happened before.

22. I think she stays
She's a red, red creationist. She's also very anti-women. She exactly the kind of women Rethugs like. Talks a lot of god, a lot of sports, a lot of guns and a lot of negative talk on feminism. They'll eat it up at the convention. She's going to appeal to the 30 %ers and that's going to make her hard to move off the ticket.

25. There's only one way she's off the ticket
And that's if they're so terrified of losing so many seats over her the party leaders DEMAND she be removed.

Otherwise, for better or worse, she does less harm staying on the ticket than she could do by dropping off.

Nobody forgets Thomas Eagleton.

30. That's really a dumb bet
The right wingers are thrilled. It causes more image problems for McCain if he dumps her than if she stays.

This type of thing seems to be a specialty on DU, wild reaches. I remember in 2004 there were many threads asserting Bush wouldn't debate Kerry at all, then when that didn't work the prediction was he would skip the 3rd debate. Let's see, another great one was that Osama Bin Laden would be unveiled on the eve of the election, in a cage like King Kong.

I'll always take my chances on normalcy
