The 'framing' of Governor Palin
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 10:35 AM by Shanti Mama
Not as in framed for a crime. I just heard Fred Thompson being interviewed on CNN by Wolf. When asked about Palin in two different contexts his canned reply was something like this:

You have to look at the experience of our vice presidential candidate relative to the experience of their presidential candidate and clearly our candidate has more experience. end of discussion (my words but that's basically what he said.

end of frame to be repeated ad nauseum.

That's how the game will be played. They are going to make the bold, audacious and ridiculously incorrect statement that Palin is more experiences than Obama. And they just might succeed if they repeat it often enough.

I feel sick.

1. Of course they will compare Palin to Obama.

That's expected. Democrats cannot fall into the trap and must ignore the ridiculous comparison. I've seen some DUers posting comparisons and it needs to stop. We need to redirect and compare her to Biden.

2. Yep. While we argue about whose feelings get hurt if we attack her.
Somedays, I wonder how Democrats get elected to dogcatcher.

3. Our presidential candidate was vetted by millions of people in the primaries
and received millions of votes, more votes than Senator Clinton who is older and does have more experience. Can the same be said about Palin? How many world leaders has she met? Does she know anything more than what is happening in Alaska? There is no comparison between Obama and Palin.

4. I know this and you know this but it doesn't matter
They are masters are repeating, over and over and over until people feel it is truth.

Obama will raise taxes. Right?

6. I am not despairing. This is all just new news at the moment.
This race is a marathon and not a sprint. Wait until the debates when Americans get a look at Obama and McCain physically, side by side. They will be shocked. Can you imagine McCain have a senior moment during the debates or a meltdown/tantrum on the campaign?

5. This comparison eerily seems like a hint
they are already anticipating that McCain would not be completing a full term for whatever reason.

7. that's why it's about QUALIFICATIONS AND NOT EXPERIENCE. Further, it's not quantity. It's quality

10. preaching to a large, motivated, outraged choir
We on DU educate ourselves. We are not the target of this message.

I believe they will repeat again and again until we hate even more than the voice of that cretin in the White House.

Let's hope there don't continue to be external 'interference', perhaps not natural, that make debates "unseemly during such critical times."

8. The Democrats need to go on the offensive
And pre-empt this bullshit.
If it requires mudslinging, oh well. Point out just how Sarah's Alaskan experience pales in comparison to Barack's Illinois experience and its applicability to the national stage. She worries about moosehunting permits, Barack has governed a large state with a city of 3 million and all its attendant issues.

Would fred take a lie detector test?

11. somehow i don't feel like i'm being heard
we can all say thompson is ignorant or that it's about values and qualifications or whatever.

the people who will hear this message over and over are not political internet junkies like us. it will, eventually, stick in their brains and frighten them. I believe this "framing" can be undermined but never underestimate the effectiveness of moronically simple, oneliners.
