MSNBC: Obama/Biden have no change of itinerary so far
Sorry for talking about political calculation in light of this certain catastrophe, but it is a MISTAKE, in pure PR terms, to cede the ground to Repubs with regard to the APPEARANCE of action and/or concern for the victims of Gustav.

Obama & Biden HAVE to alter their schedule and not cede the "response" to Repubs.

Anyone agree?

12. a quote from the article...
"He told us that his camapaign plans to mobilize its huge e-mail list of supporters to volunteer or send money once the impact of Gustav becomes apparent and authorities know better what kind of help is needed. He said his campaign is coordinating with local authorities.

"We can activate an e-mail list of a couple million people who want to give back," he said. "I think we can get tons of volunteers to travel down there if it becomes necessary.""

He's got a huge resource in his over 2 million contributors. I trust he will do whatever he feels is compassionate, using his best judgment of the situation and using information he gets from advisors on the crisis.

3. OMG! Obama was just on the phone with a New Orleans TV station!
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 11:47 AM by Connie_Corleone
He was telling people how very serious this is. He's also been in contact with the Mayor and the governor.

They're not going to go down there, end up being a distraction and getting in the way.

Good Grief!

Quit listening to what these National TV idiots say.

5. I think the Obama campaign knows what they are doing.
They have weighed the pros and cons. I suspect they have a plan to demonstrate their support for the victims that isn't pure pander like McFossil.

7. i think what we'll see is obama-biden will take the lead on congressional
action to speed relief for the affected areas. that will be the contrast between mccan't. action versus aloof observation.

14. I was...
thinking the same thing while lazing in bed this morning...
that perhaps the Senators would head to DC to take some action that would help the situation...
rather than going for a photo-op.

9. It is NOT a "mistake". Obama knows damn well he would only be a distraction
if he made an "appearance" at this time.
McCain doesn't know this, because he's an idiot.

10. Absolutely not. Perhaps cancel a gig or two, but a thousand
idiots following the candidates around the disaster zone is going to be net fodder for weeks.

Interrupting the very real rescue and recovery efforts is the most ghoulish of photo ops. Let McCain and the big moosey have it.

17. He'll show up after McCain performs his stunt.
He'll let McCain do his little convention stunt for a few dozen people. When that dim light fades, Obama will show up and tens of thousands will come to see him. It will be powerful.

One thing I've learned about Obama is that he has the courage to wait things out. He's got impeccable timing.
