Play of the Day: Biden is told he's gorgeous
The Associated Press

Alex Brandon

snip...
"Hanging out with this lean, good-looking guy is making me feel pretty old, you know what I mean?" the 65-year-old Biden said to laughter at a forum on the economy on the roof of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. "I thought I was in pretty good shape until I started hanging out with this guy, you know what I mean?"

Biden's self-deprecating humor came during his introduction for 47-year-old Obama at a campaign event about the economy. He started out talking about the differences between Obama and Republican presidential candidate John McCain, and the differences between himself and Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin, Alaska's governor who is a former beauty pageant contestant.

"Well, there's obvious differences. She's good looking," Biden said to laughter.

"You are gorgeous!" a woman in the crowd shouted.

You would realize They are the complete team, they complimented each others style
in their answers. Plus when it was over and they worked the crowd getting out of there
you could see how well each answered questions with modesty, intelligence and wit.

43. That is so wonderful! It explains everything... I can blame my attraction on my Celtic genes
... and I have always believed that African and Celtic blood has an interesting kinship. For example the Cubans are many times a mix of Celtic lines from areas of Spain, the poor areas that emigrated to Cuba, and West African... the music is great and the mix is magical.

Also, Celtic women who were considered to be witches were sent to Haiti where they enjoyed acceptance and compatibility with the West Africans. This is discussed in a book by Huxley related to voodoo and culture in Haiti in the 1800s.

63. The African-Celtic relationship goes deeper than that
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 05:33 PM by starroute
Genetic studies show there's been a steady trickle of North African DNA working its way up the Atlantic coast of Europe at least since the Neolithic.

The Celtic language are considered basically Indo-European, but they are divergent from other European languages in many ways and have certain grammatical oddities which they share with Afro-Asian languages like Berber or ancient Egyptian.

Celtic music is said to have much in common with African music.

One interesting, if somewhat eccentric, presentation of much of this can be found at http://www.hermetic.com/bey/snakes.html.

I also just ran across a webpage which talks about how many African-Americans have Celtic ancestry through their Irish or Scots-Irish immigrant ancestors -- including Alex Haley, Alice Walker, Rosa Parks, Jimi Hendrix, Muhammad Ali, and Colin Powell. (http://web.mac.com/jamesdwithrow/iWeb/Site/Blog/0C7FF890-B6D6-4BB1-82B6-A6273F647B88.html)

And, of course, there's the surprising fact that the word "jazz" itself was apparently an early 20th century Irish-American slang term with mythic Irish roots. (http://www.counterpunch.org/cassidy07142006.html)

I don't believe these connections are trivial or accidental. There's a deeply mystical and even shamanistic quality to both the Celtic and the African cultures that has consistently worked to alleviate the excessive rationalism of mainline European culture -- and which has also given them an affinity for one another.

It's no coincidence, for example, that rock 'n' roll formed in the 50's out of roughly equal parts of blues and Appalachian (which is to say, Celtic) folk music. Those are the two streams where America's soul runs deepest.

66. This is wildly interesting to me! My best friends are AA, and I am closer to them than my own
family. My best boss in the world I love is AA and I would protect her with my life - fierce devotion - not in an unacceptable way. I can't explain how I am drawn to that race, or maybe it has nothing to do with race. I just found out a couple years agop that I am part Cherokee, and I feel the same pull to other native Americans. Hell, I just love all people, I guess. But my Maker wired me with an activist spirit, and civil rights--human rights--are why I am on this earth. I know that much. Am bookmarking this thread to read your links later. Thanks for posting this!

Those are fantastic links. I was especially interested in the article on the word jazz. Most music history books say it is a word of African origin.

Thanks so much for the links. Consider me extremely interested in any related material! I'm going to research my family tree, who knows maybe I'm related to Biden or O'Bama!
