Even if McCain cancels his convention, no matter how bad that convention could have been, it still would have provided him much needed news cycles. He ain't getting that now. So he'll go to New Orleans, or other areas and talk about hurricane relief, but it'll take a backseat to the hurricane itself. Americans will be focused on that, not what John McCain or Barack Obama are doing.

This won't do anything to alter the race in any way, except that it gives less media coverage of McCain.

1. Doesn't less media coverage of McCain help us? And the constant reminder of repug incompetence?

4. I guess you can say that.
But what I mean is that had McCain gone ahead with his convention the way it was planned, there is no doubt he would have received some type of bump. There has never been a convention in recent memory where a candidate saw his numbers go down, so in that regard, Obama probably won't see his lead decline much. So yes, that helps him. But I meant in the sense I doubt Obama's lead grows or McCain ties or takes the lead.

2. One way this could be spun is that if EITHER of the candidates go down there
it will disrupt and pull needed resources away from the disaster and the victims. Obama himself said his. Those two need to stay as far away from the place as possible and let people do their jobs.

5. True
McCain is going to get less media coverage from a convention standpoint. However, Republicans are great at exploiting circumstances for political gain. Think 9/11. So it sort of balances out.

We have to wait till mid September to see how things shape up.
