Comatose-looking McCain faces his first national crisis as presidential candidate
Oh my. I'm not near a teevee. Can anyone vouch for Aravosis's assessment of McCreepy?

Comatose-looking McCain faces his first national crisis as presidential candidate
from AMERICAblog News| A great nation deserves the truth by John Aravosis (DC)

It was creepy. McCain just spoke to the nation about suspending some of the festivities at the Republican convention this week, and he seemed mildly confused, repeated himself (he quoted the same quote by Haley Barbour twice in a minute, seemingly without even realizing it), and was somewhat comatose. It was simply creepy. He had no energy whatsoever. Exuded no confidence. It was as if he was a very bad actor reading a very bad teleprompter. Wow. He just plain looked old. Not mom and dad old - grandpa old. Joe is going to be posting the vid soon. Videos like these may start Americans thinking that McCain passed his prime a few years ago.

3. I saw it,
first, McCain said he was getting feedback and he addressed this to the engineers and asked for them to fix it, and, if they couldn't fix it, he'd just go on, which he did. And yes, he did quote Barbour twice. He appeared as someone who just got up and hasn't gotten the cobwebs out of his head yet. I wouldn't say it was worse than usual. I'm very much struck by the contrast in energy between McCain and Obama. Older voters might not see this as mattering much.

5. I saw it. He didn't understand the instructions of the live TV feed producers and was
talking to the producers live on air when it started. He said something about "Cand you fix the feedback in my ear? Oh. Well, if you can't then, then, I'll just continue, then..."

Then without any other instruction, he just started talking to the camera, us.

So, basic TV production is beyond him, and he's not even past the first debate.

Let's hope he's good at that Rovian wireless earpiece thing that worked so well for George in his debates.

7. I really get the sense that his handlers are babysitting him
I saw his "statement", in which he really just looked like he was going through the motions, and then they switched quickly to his handler Rick Davis giving more details.

Oh man, someone in my house has Wolf Blitzer on in the background, and I can hear him saying right now "McCain really ought to be applauded for setting the tone on this." Uh, k, Wolfie. As if there was another choice.

9. I saw it on CNN
He looked confused, tired. Was on the verge of rambling at several points.

Didn't inspire confidence at all. He was really looking (and sounding) like Grandpa Simpson.

10. HELLO?? He's working on the weekend!
and we all know that working on the weekends is hard for McCain. Plus it's a holiday weekend. Poor guy. For 5.5 years, he didn't have weekends!
