McCain Camp Didn't Search Palin's Hometown Paper Archives
McCain Camp Didn't Search Palin's Hometown Paper Archives
August 31, 2008 05:00 PM

The McCain campaign has gone to great lengths to present the selection of Sarah Palin as one made after a careful, meticulous vetting process. But evidence continues to suggest that the Arizona Republican made his VP choice with surprising haste.

On Saturday, a Democrat tasked with opposition research contacted the Huffington Post with this piece of information: as of this weekend, the McCain campaign had not gone through old newspaper articles from the Valley Frontiersman, Palin's hometown newspaper.

How does he know? The paper's (massive) archives are not online. And when he went to research past content, he was told he was the first to inquire.

"No one else had requested access before," said the source. "It's unbelievable. We were the only people to do that, which means the McCain camp didn't."

The Frontiersman did not immediately confirm the revelation. And there is no indication from the Democratic source that anything nefarious or problematic will be found in the archives. But officials with the paper did not recall inquiries by the McCain campaign.

"I cannot confirm that information at this time," said publisher Kari Sleight. "I am not aware of the McCain campaign researching our archives, but archive requests do not usually go through me."

2. this is crazy, huh?
I just read that the guy she fired in the "abuse of power investigation" was never contacted by anyone connected to mccain either....
I would think that would be important....but maybe that's just me.

22. Did the mcain's brilliant research team think
they didn't have the time before "Obama went out into the stratesphere", after his masterpiece acceptance speech, and thought their base the corporatemedia would do a cover job?

3. Surprise, surprise! - He doesn't give a Sh#$ --
He likes the look of her and her supposed spunk. He thinks he is immortal and if she can bring in enough wackos to put him in the Oval Office -- who cares?

I think I can see where this is going, too.

4. This is the kind of information we need to start circulating.
The point being we have names we can look into and where to start our search and we also know where to send it. Her decline is imminent.

5. I think she was chosen after Obama's historic
speech when McINSAME freaked and knew he had to make a desperate move. Sarah Plain was chosen at the last moment and not vetted at all.

13. "McINSAME freaked" LOL
I would have liked to have seen that. McCain was probably sitting stunned before his TV set after seeing Obama's speech and campaign aides were waving their hands in front of him. After they revived him, he probably rose to his feet and had sets of ball bearings going in both hands as he kicked everyone around him and as campaign aides tried to get him to stand still so they could change his pants after he soiled them.

10. This is the inverse of Harriet Myers. In this case the Repo base loves her,
which of course is the opposite the Myers situation.

8. Much more at Daily Kos
It seems there are both audio and video recordings documenting Palin's unethical, if not illegal intimidation of the Alaskan State Police.

Here is one link, but several other diaries linking to depositions and court records.

11. McCain will state he was in prison camp when Eagleton wasn't vetted properly
McCain will state that he was in prison camp when Eagleton wasn't vetted properly, in 1972. McCain was released in 1973.

Eagleton was announced by George McGovern as his running mate July 14, 1972, but it was soon found that "Between 1960 and 1966, Eagleton checked himself into the hospital three times for physical and nervous exhaustion, receiving electric shock treatments twice." Eagleton withdrew August 1.

12. WTF? When is McCain going to start taking this seriously?
I refuse to believe he doesn't want to win. This is his last chance at the WH and he has been working for this for a long time now.

Is it that he's so arrogant and out of touch that he thinks he deserves the WH and doesn't need to seriously campaign?

- This is the FIRST weekend I know of where he's campaigning.
- He throws silly tantrums at Obama (Celebrity! Unpatriotic!)
- He openly campaigns on issues that he voted against time and time again
- He chooses a running mate he hasn't vetted and who is not qualified for the job

The RNC convention is now in shambles, McCain stutters on tv today and looks so ridiculously unprepared...I honestly can not wrap my head around his actions.

:wtf:

Except their version of "vetting" is talking to her pastor and praying about it.
