Ah, and while the Palin family may claim that they had no such involvement, it seems that Sarah Palin has a history of abuse of power.

While fighting off the Chinese and Russians as the mayor of her small Alaska town, Palin began her tenure by firing the town librarian and the police chief. Sound familiar? The police chief filed a lawsuit citing that he was only fired because he supported Palin’s opponent. Meanwhile, the librarian, according to local papers, was asked what she thought about perhaps censoring some of the books in the library. Is it no wonder than that one ‘editor’ hacked Palin’s wikipedia page the morning she was announced to be VP to make it sound, well, better?

I've read the story before but was curious as to whether someone had found a link which specified which books she wanted banned. Books on evolution perhaps?

1. That was a rhetorical question!

Or something... she was only curious about whether they'd censor books. She wasn't asking cause she ACTUALLY wanted to censor books.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

2. Id love to know this too

But I'd change it.

I don't care WHICH BOOKS she wanted to ban...I only want to know if she wanted ANY BOOKS banned?

We need to find out this. Banning books is pure fascism at work. PURE fascism. What did the Nazis do when they took over? One of the things was ban books they did not approve of.

10. Was it that librarian, or was the one asked
the one fired, in which case one would assume not the current library administrator?

11. Is that the library?

Huh. Well maybe I'll send them an email Tuesday. :)

Edit: Of course it's been several years since the incident. Any chance we have an Alaskan DUer that can check the newspaper archives?

13. Looks like the librarian is still there.
For some reason, The Anchorage Daily News took the time to modify the story from 1997 (???)

http://www.adn.com/sarahpalin/story/510219.html

Both Stambaugh and Emmons publicly supported Palin's opponent, long-time mayor John Stein during the campaign last fall. When she was elected, Palin questioned their loyalty and initially asked for their resignations. But Stambaugh said he thought any questions had been resolved.

Stambaugh has headed the Wasilla Police Department since it was created in 1993. Before that, he worked 22 years with Anchorage Police Department, rising to the rank of captain before retiring.

Emmons, who has been the city's library director for seven years, would not comment about the affair.
