Anchorage newspaper picks up baby-gate
http://community.adn.com/node/130178

OK - the Palin baby speculation is inescapable at this point. The left-leaning Daily Kos posted an item Friday called "Palin's faked "pregnancy"? Covering for teen daughter?"

It's a version of a rumor - long simmering in Alaska -- that Palin's daughter Bristol was pregnant and the governor somehow covered it up by pretending to have the baby (Trig) herself.

-snip-

The answer here should be pretty simple. It happened or it didn't. For months, we have been getting anonymous people telling us they "know" it's true, or people we do know telling us they've heard it fifth-hand. We haven't seen anything resembling proof. We asked the governor's office, and the governor, multiple times about it.

-snip-

What's Palin's in-state spokesman, Bill McAllister say?

That it's not true. "The answer to that is no," he said.

"But beyond that, I don't know, why should we even have to say anything," he said.

McAllister was an Anchorage TV reporter before working for Palin. He said Palin once approached him - before people knew she was pregnant - assuming he'd been hearing rumors.

"She said it's not true about Bristol," McAllister said.

At the time, the rumor would have been that Palin's daughter was pregnant.

How does McAllister know it's not true?

"The governor's not a liar. That's the main reason. But also this would have to involve some sort of conspiracy with the hospital of Wasilla. They said she gave birth there. Is the doctor, the nurses ... are they all lying?" he said.

Why not share the birth certificate?

"What a thing to request -- prove that this is your baby," McAllister said. "I mean, my god, that's horrifying to think that she would have to do that."

4. my thoughts exactly...
I would think tho, the anchorage paper would easily be able to find photos of her from March/April to put this to bed.

2. "The governor's not a liar." Except that she is - she falsified scientific data.
Palin lied about the number of polar bears. She directed state agencies to hide scientific evidence, and then she lied about it.

She also lied about her position on the bridge to nowhere. She lied about her actions when firing her ex-BIL.

Governor Palin is a liar.

This entire decision wreaks. Period.

Too much smoke not to have some real fire in it.

18. Sarah Palin is a liar
The fact she approached this man to tell him that her daughter was not pregnant should raise a red flag.

22. It is kind of bizarre.
Why would she tell someone the rumor was not true when that someone didn't bring the subject up? I would understand if she was asked about it.

8. Rumors die unless they have some substance. And you can't be sort of pregnant.
This one is either/or. Period. Simple. Either she lied or she didn't. Either she's a clever faker, or she isn't. Either she wants to clear her name and put this to rest, or she doesn't.

7. Wouldn't there be unexplained time periods on her calendar
when she went to the doctor? If her staff wasn't aware she was pregnant when was she going for doctor appointments? We live in 2008 there has to be a paper trail whether it is her professional/personal calendar to documentation from her insurance company, the doctor and hospital.

10. You mean, like Bristol being home schooled for 5 months for 'mono?"
And going back to work after only 3 days? And flying home to her private, remote hospital to "deliver" instead of delivering where where was?

Smoke, smoke, and more smoke. And it's all important, because she's going to seat the next supreme court members and limit roe v wade if at all possible.

If she's planning on standing in judgement over my body and my daughter's, then I get to have this rumor disspelled and investigated. And I mean, by independent media. Lots of it.

37. I totally agree
fwiw, my mom had twins when she was 41 (a couple of months short of her 42nd birthday). The twins were born about a month early and were both less than 4 lbs. Granted mom's pregnancy was back in the early 70's and things were different then. I do remember that mom had once a week doctor visits because she was a high risk pregnancy. Mom worked and had to schedule her work appointments around her doctor visits.

Surely, as a VP candidate, the governor's schedule and her health records will be released to the public. It's only fair.

13. Here's how to settle it ...
Subpoena Mr. Palin, get his DNA ... run a test against the baby's DNA ...

Two scandals in one, if the "father's" DNA doesn't match the baby's ...

If it doesn't match up enough, either she had an affair, or it wasn't her baby to begin with ...

I mean, geez ... Desperate Housewives just went through a season where they pulled this stunt to hide the fact that their daughter was having an illegitimate pregnancy ...

I mean come on. "Go get that son-of-a-bitch, hold him down, and swab the inside of his cheek god damnit! Then go get that damn baby and do the same! WE'LL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS!"

I don't want to live in a place where people like you could demand actions like this for "scandals" sake.

14. "What a thing to request --"
The birth certificate? Yeah, but it's very easy to get and would put the thing to bed, wouldn't it? In the meantime, and I think this is why the story creeps me out, it this isn't just Gov. Palin's truthfulness being talked about--

The center of the rumor is her teenaged daughter. If there's nothing to the story, then to protect her daughter, wouldn't she want to kill this story? I don't put a lot of stake in the story myself based on the circumstantial evidence--the whole "Does she look pregnant in this picture?" business, since it's possible she was watching her weight better with this pregnancy since it could be high-risk. So that kind of speculating doesn't really grab me. But how she responds to the rumor...that might be meaningful.

For months, we have been getting anonymous people telling us they "know" it's true, or people we do know telling us they've heard it fifth-hand. We haven't seen anything resembling proof. We asked the governor's office, and the governor, multiple times about it.

Multiple times, without a positive denial? And the McCampaign didn't know this rumor was about? Fishy as sockeye, says I.

Have the nurses said anything at all? HIPPA would likely prevent the medical personnel from talking even if they wanted to.

40. ADN has been sitting on this news for months...
According to the poster at this blog who first posted the "both mom and daughter were pregnant" news.
Looks like they thought the national news would do as the Alaskan news did and turn a blind eye.

http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/off-to-the-land-of-palin/

Sue Williams (12:31:50)
The Anchorage Daily News has known about this for months - and haven’t touched the story. But I can’t imagine the national press or the Democratic Party will be as willing to turn a blind eye.

Sue Williams (08:34:00) :

When Todd and Sarah first learned Bristol was pregnant, they were “devastated” - which parents wouldn’t be? Sarah said she knew the scrutiny of the press would be hard for Bristol to take.

And then Sarah decides it’s okay to run for VP? If she thought the press in down home Alaska - a press corp who has given her family a free pass and who, even tho they’ve known about Bristol’s pregnancy for months, hasn’t touched it with a ten foot pole - if Sarah thought Alaska’s press would be hard for Bristol to bear, just exactly what did she think the nation’s press pool would be like? Or the fact that by accepting McCain’s offer to join the ticket, Sarah knew full well Bristol will become the most well known pregnant high school senior ON THE PLANET.
