Senator Kerry nailed it for all of us yesterday
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 10:16 AM by kpete
Senator Kerry nailed it for all of us yesterday:

KERRY: What John McCain has proven with this choice — this is very important, George. John McCain wanted to choose Tom Ridge. He wanted to choose Joe Lieberman. He wanted to choose another candidate, but you know what? Rush Limbaugh and the right wing vetoed it.

And John McCain was forced to come back and pick a sort of Cheney-esque social conservative who’s going to satisfy the base.

What John McCain has proven with this choice is that John McCain is the prisoner of the right wing, not a maverick

1. Kerry's been great. I thought his speech at the convention was the hardest hitting of all and
showed the fighting side of Kerry we've all wanted to see for so long - but couldn't find a single
commentator who even mentioned it.

I was surprised and disappointed about that, since I thought he was terrific, telling it like it is.

3. Very good point. He was pushed to choose his VP by the cynical right
Who thought fundamentalist hockey mom was just what his ticket needed to win, never mind what the nation needs.

5. John McCain has finally succumbed to the "Stockholm Syndrome"
having been a political P.O.W. of the Republican party ...

6. I think McCain punked the party with his Palin pick.
Sorry for that tongue-twister but that's what I think may have happened. I think he was furious when he floated the Tom Ridge trial balloon and got told in no uncertain terms "you can't pick him." So he said "fuck it, I'll go to Podunk, Alaska and pick the first fundie nutjob I find."

I think Kerry nailed it, though. He's not wasting his time debating whether or not she is qualified, he's flat out saying she isn't and proceeding to examine what that says about McCain. That's the debate we should be having. What does this terrible decision say about McCain? Is he senile? Under the thumb of the fundies? Is he self-destructing? All of the above?
