5. And another kid who couldn't get into college
so was forced to join the Army. These people are the exact kind of people we have been talking about for 8 years. They have no options in life so they have no drive to achieve. The boys join the army and the girls get pregnant. It's the only way any of them can have any kind of pride or self esteem. It would be sad if it weren't so dangerous.

6. You have proof that their son couldn't get into college?
He was "forced" to join the Army?

Wow.

9. I don't have the link
But I did read about that story last night. He wanted to play hockey in college, but didn't have the 2.0 needed to just get in, and Dad pushed it.

13. Not getting a 2.0 in high school is pretty pathetic
Presumably he had A's in gym.

But, this is the SON. It has nothing to do with the MOTHER. She can not take the tests for him and by high school should not be monitoring his homework.

12. He went to high school in Michigan
so he could play on a notable hockey team in the hopes of getting onto a college team and then turning pro. He enlisted in the Army instead. You figure it out.

14. Her family is wealthy - they owned Heath bar
There would have been some business that either they, a relative or a friend, could have hired the kid for. As to the girl being pregnant - I'm not sure she is.

16. Her parents worked in an elementary school, according to reports.
Her dad was a teacher and mom was the school secretary.

What connection do they have to Heath/Hershey?

Heath Brothers Confectionery was established in Robinson, Illinois, in 1914. The recipe for the HEATH English toffee bar was perfected by the Heath brothers in 1928. In 1932, the Heaths inched their way into the national market.

The candy bar was made completely by hand until 1942 when the plant was modernized. During World War II, the U.S. Government contracted with Heath to produce bars for military distribution. This was the beginning of a new base of consumers.

During the 70s and 80s the business grew and many new products and package types were added. Heath was purchased by Leaf in 1989. Hershey Foods Corporation acquired the Leaf North American confectionery operations from Huhtamaki Oy of Helsinki, Finland in 1996.

8. She's increasing the membership in the PTA and the issues
that intercity schools face. I taught in an intercity school, most of the
pregnancies were because of lack parental involvement and poor education.

I think Obama had a great quote in his convention speech addressing this problem

17. They have a father, he chooses to work as well... Her mother apparently helps out...
I'm telling you, if my kid in high school couldn't make a 2.0 GPA I'd enroll him in tutoring classes, I'd hire private tutors, I'd be breathing down his god damn back... I'm sorry, if your kid is capable of doing the work, and you parent them, there's no reason they can't get at least a 2.0 average, that's just sad.

Although, if he couldn't get a 2.0 in high school, no way would he have hacked college....
