I DO have sympathy for Sarah Palin. It must be awful to be so scrutinized in public.

But that's why I'm not in politics.

Hillary stands toe to toe with the likes of Biden and maybe doesn't come out ahead, but she comes out far from pathetic.

Politics is a rhetorical contact sport. No need to go soft on those that have achieved a prominent place in it.

1. She made her choice to step into the spotlight
save you sympathy for those who deserve it.

16. your intro said you have sympathy for her
and than qualified that statement in the body of the op. I get it, but people breezing through these posts see that you feel sorry for her and no one should feel sorry for her.

2. I don't. She chose the scrutiny. She brought it on herself.
If Sarah Palin didn't want to be under the public microscope, she could have said no.

4. Precisely, and that's what the OP said, if you're in politics, you're going to be under scrutiny

10. I know what she said.
She also said she has sympathy for Palin, and responded that I don't.

14. From what I've read, Palin has WELCOMED the limelight.
If you can't stay out of the heat....don't you dare step in the kitchen.

I feel both parents are incredibly selfish. If she can't handle the pressure, she should gracefully bow out.

The LIMELIGHT and the scrutiny will ONLY GET WORSE.

6. I have no sympathy for that vile person -- she asked for it , let's give it to her
She ran for public office. It goes with the territory.

I DO have sympathy for her CHILDREN -- they didn't be asked to be put in the spotlight. Palin's arrogance, ignorance, and ambition have now exposed her 17-year-old daughter's knocked-up condition to the whole country. It's deprived her disabled baby son of the maternal nurturning he needs. I'm a feminist who believes women are entitled to pursue whatever ambitions they have -- but not at the expense of the welfare of their minor children she willingly brought into the world. It's not always possible to have it both ways.

Palin is unspeakable. She deserves all the scrutiny on she gets.

8. All my sympathy goes to Bristol. I don't have any left over for her mother.
She knew what she was getting into. Bristol just had to get dragged along into this.

13. Also must be awful
to be the state trooper she fired over her BIL. Or the library head she canned because censoring books wasn't flying. And so on. I wonder how they felt to lose their livelihoods in a state where jobs like that are hard to come by, due to the whims of a woman who thought getting elected meant having easier ways to get even with people.

Agree that this is a full body sport - from everything I read, esp the stuff from fellow Alaskans, Ms. Palin is very comfortable dishing it out. I hope with all my heart that she falls short in "taking it" in return, esp. the way it is likely to be handled in the big leagues. Probably a bunch of her victim relatives and constituents are thrilled beyond measure at this turn of events.
